Honest LC250 review that goes into more technical details & why Toyota missed the mark on LC250

Tinkerer is Rad. He had really, really solid observations. Gotta admit, my heart sank a little with some of the points he made about the sway bar, rear diff. and CVs. But it is what is. I really like my LC and this doesn;t change my prospect of owning it for at least 10 years. Maybe gonna look into a beefed up sway bar though, the wallow is real.

*Edit: I wonder if the smaller rear differential has something to do with dedicated full-time 4 wheel drive vs. part-time with the rear differential being under more long-term stress?

Some good points, and informative, but I'm not sure the parts comparing the FJ Trail Teams Ultimate Edition vs the LC or LC FE is an apples to apples comparison. I'd venture a guess that if Toyota released a LC TTUE it would be as good as, if not better, than the FJ.

I used to own an FJ and it was a blast. That 6 speed manual could crawl up a tree, and it was a great off-road vehicle, but the engine was pretty anemic overall.

Good stuff- i agree with a lot of his points. Toyota definitely phoned it in on some things.

Interesting point about the CV axles… I’m a bit disappointed they didnt use the same ones from the GX but i wont be doing heavy off roading/rock crawling much so i guess it doesnt matter to me.

Disappointing for sure!

I guess aftermarket solutions will probably solve this for people that really want to push this rig down the line.

For now on rough FSRs, this probably won't matter to me. I do kinda wish they'd stop using 1st edition pricing. I paid $83.5K CAD pretax for my LCLC and I can't get into an overtrail GX for less than $100k CAD.

What I don't understand is how the 250 ended up the same weight as the 300, despite so much "weight saving".
It’s not. The 250 is 5400 lb, not 5900 lb as claimed in the video. He also falsely claimed that all hybrid 4Runner and Tacos come with larger diff gear. It’s actually only the TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims. Usually he’s pretty well researched. I think this video is a little unfair, focusing heavily on what’s worse compared to the old platform and ignoring everything that’s better.

There's a lot of good info in there some of which is relevant to me -- who doesn't want a larger gas tank, and I do wish the ground clearance was better. But much of which isn't. He's a lot more interested in lifting and modifying and pretty serious off-roading than I am. Just look at the pickup he's working on now -- I would not own that, it doesn't fit my needs, but it's perfect to him. I've had both the vehicles in that video and I don't regret selling my 2014 TTUE MT FJ for my Land Cruiser. It still feels like a huge upgrade. And if they vastly improve the Land Cruiser in a few years (they slightly improved the FJ after a few years) I'll either trade in this Land Cruiser for one of those or buy the upgrade parts and have them installed. (I am thinking about getting skids/protector plates for the lower link mount after that video though!)
