Front License Plate Bracket Install --

Won’t do it. We bought a neoprene plate holder (it’s similar to what I had on my dog tags in Navy) and placed it on the dash. This is what we’re doing for now only because my wife insisted.

Eventually it’s probably going in the glovebox or under the passenger seat because… while required in CA, the cops in my area are barely concerned with all the red light runners. Can’t imagine they give a damn about a missing front plate.

I was considering not putting it on but still keep it inside the car. I see so many Tesla’s bmw and Mercedes without it. W so many other moving violations that can net higher fees than a fix it ticket would, I can imagine Chp and local law enforcements wouldn’t bother much pulling over someone for not having a front license plate.
I mean what about all those illegal front driver window tints. I don’t see them getting pulled over.

Yup. We’re glad we stopped the sales guy from drilling holes to “make us legal”.

Is this removable and will it cause damage to the grill if I want to take it off? Is there any concern for it to fall off? My experience w double sided tape is it has a tendency to not stay attached.
Do you recommend a particular brand of double sided tape?

I used several layers of Gorilla tape, double sided, on the top (you have to build up the point of contact). There’s only one strip on the bottom. It seems to be working just fine. The tape moved around the first day, but once it set, it’s been fixed. It’s gone through the car was a few times with no issue.

I am concerned about it discoloring the bumper, long-term, but there are no drill holes there, either

I definitely recommend drilling a small pilot hole first in order to get the screw started and to prevent it from walking around the small indented areas. Other than that, worked well and I am now legal. At least legal with regards to front license plates.

Just some caution with these... I had something similar on my old 4runner and they broke off on a water crossing, breaking the grill also. PITA for no reason...

Today I was able to use zip ties (24 inches) and adhesive foam (1 inch place on the bottom and between the screw holes on the top) to secure the license plate holder to the bumper. See photos. If u can live w 2 zip ties that look like it might be part of the bumper and that the bracket isn’t completely flushed to the it…this could be one solution for those of us that don’t want to drill into the bumper. I still prefer zip tying to the bottom grill mesh for cleaner look

For the CA guys, if you’re in NorCal, I don’t think the cops care anymore. It’s the law, sure, but we got bigger problems.

Objectively speaking, 16 years in CA with no front plate across 5 cars and around 40k miles a year. Been pulled over multiple times and it’s never come up. As long as you’re not driving a rice-e-roni and you’re respectful to the officer, you’ll be good.

Has anyone installed their front license plate bracket themselves?

It doesn't appear Toyota put any centering marks on the front bumper for the bracket, so I am inquiring as to anyone's centering guides/techniques.

I'm going to install mine tomorrow. Took a while, but found a Toyota document called the "2024 Land Cruiser Pre-Delivery Service (PDS)" which has installation instructions. Interestingly, it says not to drill holes.

I did the Carbonio bracket and I love it. No holes and it’s strong, relocatable and removable.

The web site has install videos. As I said expensive, but well made. I’ll will be buying these for all my vehicles moving forward.

With my very poor eye sight I accidentally made the first hole in the wrong spot . It doesn't really bother me but damn I'm blind

The problem is the dimples are so slight that they can’t be felt to line up the screws with. I just held the license bracket against the bumper with the side of my knee, looked to see that the bracket was centered with the Toyota lettering on the grill, and ran the screws in with a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Amazing how easily those screws went through the bumper cover. So much for durability.

It doesn’t have an actual pic of it on the Land Cruiser though. Does it install below that black piece where the license plate would normally get drilled on?
