Doug Rips Us Again

You are correct. They should have just called it the Prado like they do everywhere else then all of the influencers would have nothing to whine about. If the 300 were available in the US I would consider purchasing one as well. But I would probably keep my Prado because I really dig it, flaws and all. Sense the 4Runner comes with two available trims that have permanent four wheel drive (if I'm not mistaken) like the LC (Prado) you have a valid point. I'm purchasing the Prado emblem and putting it on my truck like they do in Australia because it is a Prado, and I'm good with that.
Honestly, they should’ve put an 80/100/200 badge on the Station Wagons. Because they didn’t, folks now get bent out of shape, thinking Toyota pulled a fast one just because the “Prado” was dropped for the States and called it the Land Cruiser 250. My bet is if they bring the 300 to the States, they’ll also call it Land Cruiser, just with a shiny chrome 300 on the liftgate. The thing is, they do have the same name always have just different series numbers. Prado is just a fancy name for the light duty LC. Add the series badge on the cruisers, and everyone should be happy, right? Nah. The real issue is gatekeeping. all I gotta say is they can deal with it, Nuff said.

I've been in the new 4Runner and it feels cramped and claustrophobic compared to the LC and the sight lines out of the 4R are terrible by comparison. A friend of mine with a 4R (prior generation) who has driven my LC also likes the LC a lot more. That doesn't mean the 4Runner isn't good, but it serves a different population than the LC.

With over 70,000 LC250 sold in the U.S. since the reintroduction last year Doug's comments feel really out of touch with reality. If your use case is like Doug's (stealth wealth/look at me), maybe it's not the right truck for you. If you're like me and wanted an extremely capable off road 4x4 that is reliable and a great daily driver, then this is by far the best in the market.
The LC and the 4Runner are a perfect example of the difference between a "global" and "US" platform.

The LC, while rugged, is at the same time elegant and (somewhat) upscale. Both, exterior styling and interior design, make it fit equally well on an African safari or Australian outback, and in front of a upscale hotel on French Riviera. It's refined without being luxurious. It's a sensible garage complement for an outdoorsy person whose other car is a BMW or a Lexus, but who does not want to look like a Saudi sheik in a opulent LC300.

The 4Runner, on the other hand, is flashy and tacky. It's perfect fit for the US market where a substantial portion of the population believes that hanging bull's testicles from the trailer hitch is a status symbol. It's practical and rugged, but no European or Japanese consumer with aesthetic sensibility even slightly above Homer Simpson would buy one. Especially because if they want good off-road capability on a budget, they can get a Dacia Duster or Suzuki Jimny for less than half of the money, and still be able to go to 99% of the places a LC or 4Runner could take them. The 4Runner is too much of a compromise in terms of comfort, fuel economy and off-road capability to compete outside of the US. Too expensive to be a budget off-roader, and too uncomfortable and tacky to appeal to non-US consumers who could afford one.

Doug thinks customers bought the LC250 just for the name shows how clueless he is. I bought it because it ticked all the boxes I wanted in a new ride. Call it the DougWhiner 250 for all I care. Also Doug showing love for the LX that cost $50k more than the LC just shows that he has deep influencer pockets. Buying one of those just isnt a option for most of us.
I quit watching him long ago.
Welcome to the asylum.

You mean to tell me that you don’t like ‘Truck Nuts’?

I was thinking this too.
The 200 just says Land Cruiser, the 70 just says Land Cruiser, and so does the 250.
Do they put the series number on a badge in other markets? I don’t think I’ve seen that but not positive.

Sure, a 6-cylinder LC250 would’ve had me sold. But a GX550 with that hideous minivan front wearing a Lexus badge? Nope. Hate the brand, hate the look 😎

A 6 cylinder LC250 is what I would love to buy, or an LC300.

Just not with the 6 cylinder Toyota offers, because the V35A-FTS twin turbo V6 is a complete shit show of spun main bearings, recalls, recalls on the recall, and probably more recalls.

Not sure what Doug means by it doesn't drive "effortlessly" it is full time AWD and has electric power steering. It feels great at 80+ on the highway and drives like a Lexus. Not sure what he meant by this.

I made a simple comparison between LC and 3 "flavors" of 4Runner gazillion trims. Of course it is subjective, but I don't think I am too far off-base. It assumes that it represents a typical owner who does use his/her LC off-road, but also spends most of the time on paved roads - I think this is the reality for most of us. If your LC is purely a mall-crawler or you only drive it off-road, the ratings would obviously be different.
I used a 0-to-5 scale, with "0" being non-existent and "5" being best-in-class (think G-wagen, LC 70 for comfort and off-road capability, RAV4 Hybrid for fuel economy). I also gave a little reliability credit to non-hybrid 4Runner just because of the added complexity of the hybrid system (although I think that in real life the difference will be non-existent, time will tell).

The final measure is "dollars per point" or subjective value rating. Based on this, LC LC scores as best "value for money", with LC 1958 being second best (which BTW came as a surprise, as I was expecting the 1958 to come on top, but I want to stay true to the numbers).

Not giving the naysayer a click to support him, don't really care what they say 🤷‍♂️
Friends, this is the answer. Let these clowns do their thing but don't click and drive up the viewership.

In Australia they put the Prado badge on the J250 if I'm not mistaken.

He's just talking out his ass. IMO

Hey buddy, ease up on the Tacoma. It’s a good truck. I should know we have 2 24’s our family. The same kind of BS crap these YouTube influencers spout about the Land Cruiser. They have also spouted about the Tacoma and you’re just repeating that crap. We have 45,000 miles on a Tacoma with the transmission TSB and have never had a problem with it. I have over 10,000 miles on the other one. And I personally don’t mind the large screen and its placement as a taller driver. I see right over it no problem.
I had the Tacoma TRD Off Road for a loaner for a month or so while I was awaiting a new transmission from the Toyota factory for my LCFE. I thought it was a pretty damn cool truck and if I needed another truck would gladly drive it.

Yeah, but I bet it fits in the parking garage at Lionshead with skis on top.

The LC is deceptively tall. Which is usually a good thing.
