I got a phone call today from a young lady at Dirtcom. She said the owner had an accident in the shop and suffered a severe injury, and now she is responsible for getting orders shipped out. She confirmed my address and said it would ship tomorrow.

Looking forward to an update. They offer one that hinges on the left for the GX460 barn door. I want to pick up a used one but can’t seem to find one. I might need to cough up the money for the full price.

I ordered my trailswing on April 14th and I still haven’t received mine. They keep telling me it will be shipped a certain date when I email them but still nothing.

Not sure if I should wait longer or ask for a refund through my credit card company.

Some first impressions, after like a week:

Ordered in Feb, delivered in Aug. It comes in one heavy, awkward box that is beat to hell, though all expected components were inside. It did not come with critical information, like torque specs. It also doesn't say if the hinge and bearing have been greased from the manufacturer, or what grease to use, although there is clearly a zerk for greasing things.

The welds look good. Everything seems to be primed. Lots of flash and holidays in the powder coat, however. I wish ordering it bare metal was an option. Powder coat doesn't hold up where I live.

There is a resting platform for the swing arm that offers some adjustment. It is supposed to bolt in the slots to the right of the receiver and rubber bumper. Instead, I drilled a couple new holes and moved it over to rest on the receiver itself. The tiny bolts it's installed with seemed insufficient to truly carry the weight of a fullsize spare.

I really feel like this was a small company, which happened to make a nice product as a one-off for SEMA, and was completely unprepared for what this would do to their business. The 200 ran for like 14 years. With an LC generation as young as the 250, you really want to be as close to first as you can, do some unique things to protect your patent, and make an install base from which you can grow your accessory line. Few domestic fab shops are up to such a task that aren't already up to their elbows in military work. This is a niche market that's tough to survive in.

First impressions continued:

They should include a single pass-through plug for grabbing power and ground from your factory tail lights to power the license plate light. For what this thing costs, it would be in the budget. It could literally be 3D printed for next to nothing. But I am old school, so after a couple minutes with a multimeter, I had a plan. From the OEM tail light plug, solid green is positive, white/black stripe is ground. I'm not a fan of Scotchlocks, but I don't want to argue one way or another, so I won't show you how I tapped into the OEM stuff, but those are the wires I used.

I stopped to have a beer and rest, like you do.

Ordered some weathertight connectors from Amazon, and this is the finished product at this time.

At the hinge, you can clearly see the zerk fitting. The lack of instructions also It also makes it so you don't know if the hinge and bearing have been greased from the manufacturer, what grease to use, or what that bolt should be torqued to.

I have a couple other adjustments and changes I want to make. I'll go into more detail in my build thread at some point.

Sharing some intel for those who may have read about the issues with Dirtcom and aren’t keen on a 6+ month wait time on a hitch carrier:

Exactly one month ago I ordered Rigd’s hitch mounted tire swing. It shipped today. 30 days on the dot.

I’m not declaring success yet (it hasn’t arrived and I haven’t evaluated the quality) but it just goes to show that it doesn’t have to take half a year to get a simple product.

Update:
It’s October and I ordered my trailswing on April 14th and still nothing. I contacted them last week on Friday and they told me another excuse. That my order didn’t transfer at the new system they have. They had to take my order again, and told me that they will send me an email on Monday when it’s being powered coated.

Makes no sense to me because if they didn’t have my order on their system. They wouldn’t have sent me the table for the trailswing. Still waiting on trailswing with other accessories I ordered.


Anyone out there ordered from them recently?
