Comparison of lighting quality between square v. round headlights?

We pay 15% tax in bc. That takes you to 99
Ugh. That’s where wherever in the 90s the price falls, I almost think Toyota has the upper hand in showrooms now. If you’re laying out basically 6 figures, you hope to do that only once a decade. Nothing’s cheap any longer, but surely this has to be exploring the top end of price that people could afford.

Not perfect but here are the rectangular headlights in action on our LC trim on the way home from taking delivery.

Normally I like to aim headlights up just a smidge, but these are quite good on factory settings. No complaints. For the safety conscious my wife was driving and I was riding shotgun when I took that with the camera more or less in the center of the dash.

Does anyone have photos side by side comparison round vs. square?

IIHS ratings came out. round headlights performed better according to them, but i don't exactly understand the results

Consider that this was a single evaluation during which they did not assess whether or not headlights were correctly adjusted. I thus don't know what to make of the results, one way or the other.

Well the flip side on the adjustment at least is that this is how the car is delivered to the customer. It says something (about the delivering dealer and Toyotas oversight over the dealer) that they would be delivered improperly adjusted.

Interesting! All in all. They are pretty good. I just drove a GX and can say my square lights are slightly better in low beam and probably similar high beam, but both were far superior to the Yukon my wife just bought.

Anyone come across a comparison of the quality of light emitted from the square vs. round headlights?

I have a deposit on a First Edition, but am not seeing much value in the upcharge for mudflaps... in fact, I'd rather have roof rails to the factory rack. I'd opt for the mid-grade if I learned that the square lights have superior illumination over the round ones... call me crazy!
I know tp replace drivers side square OEM is $1,783.10 don't ask me how I know:(
