Car Stolen, Don't want it to happen again..

I need to hide a couple of the new Air Tag thingies in Miss Daisy.
I have AirTags in all my vehicles ;) “and myself included” just in case some “female thefts” steal me…my “boss” at home can take me “home” 😆

New here but watching interesting threads. Anyone try Ravelco? Had it installed previous vehicle. Thinking about my Land Cruiser .

I read up on the Ravelco system when I considered it for my previous vehicle. There are "challenge" videos on Youtube for people trying to bypass the Ravelco system.

One thing I didn't like about Ravelco is how the install is pretty intrusive in terms of tying into multiple factory wire harnesses for their port they install. They basically have an installer come to you, are secretive with the install (not unheard of in the security industry), and you have to install their key into the port to start your vehicle. It'll protect it from being stolen, but so will other less visible solutions. Visibility can be good, but that will be up to you if you want to go that way.

How much does that system cost (equipment +labor) ?

I need to hide a couple of the new Air Tag thingies in Miss Daisy.
I switched from "Air tags" to "Tiles" due to Air tags needs to be in proximity of an iPhone and Tiles do not. Life 360 app (free) will track "Tiles" in real time. Tiles also allow you to get an audible beep for when you lose your keys or your phone......LOL. I have one in my wallet (credit card size) one in my back pack, one on each key ring one in each vehicle and one for my pup (when traveling). I share the one in my wallet with my daughter so she can track me on "Life 360" that way if I'm traveling and the icon stops moving...... she calls to make sure something bad didn't happen.

That’s a great idea!!... I often wondered about using Tiles. Maybe Tiles would be better…

Thanks for the welcome. I’m a newbie LC owner . Sort of . Replaced my wife’s 13 rav4 with a new meteor shower 2 months ago. Two weeks ago during a recall update of the media software on my 2024 trd pro tundra when they were done and started the truck it’s non recalled (hybrid 6) swallowed a valve at 13000 miles. I raised enough hell they basically gave me my choice. As I don’t recommend the v6 until they redesign; I now have my second Land Cruiser. The one I’ll most likely have a Ravelco anti theft installed. I had one on the truck I replaced with the tundra and was happy with. They supposedly have never had a car with one installed stollen except when winched onto a flatbed. Sorry the long wind but kinda killed two birds…

Or, hear me out, just install an OEM battery, that way the thief can't start it cause the car will be dead!
Now thefts have to carry more equipments include the battery jump start. Thefts: “Damn…hard earning $” 😜

A few years ago, there were stories about iPhones notifying the owners if someone had placed and AirTag in close proximity to the iPhone, for safety. However, iPhones would not notify the owners of the phone that a “Tile” device was close by, there by making it easier for some creeps to track people.. is this still true?

There are free apps like tracker detector, and also native to the Android operating system now that alerts you to trackers within your vicinity.

Sometimes for fun. When I'm sitting in Los Angeles traffic, I'll click the tracker Alert app and then I'll push "make a noise" which turns on the tracking device in someone else's car and makes it beep 😭🤣

Yes, as the tile is linked an individual's cell phone. What can't happen...... once a tile is linked to a life 360 account, It's very hard for someone else (I'm sure professionals could) to track that tile unless invited. In my case my daughter's family has multiple tiles, however, I can only see hers. I have at least 10 tiles on my account, but she can only see the one I keep in my wallet. That being said, if it were my tile, linked to my account and I placed it on your vehicle....... I could track that tile just about anywhere.

Well having seen the car yesterday you can see how they access the canbus.. other than some trims pulled to try to find the trackers which they didn't find condition is fine.

They did remove a control unit under the centre console which means I have more warning messages then you cna shake a stick at and the engine won't start. Anyone know which contorl unit it is?

Cheers

It might be one of the digital key units. You can get parts dept at dealer to check with photo of connector as they are colour coded and you’ll be able to tell by number of pins etc. which connector and in turn which unit it is you need.
