Sounds like something is loose in your exhaust system.

After further investigation it sounds like it is coming directly from the top of the engine. Sound seems to be coming from one of the injectors but they tend to have more of a tick to them and this is more of a rattle.

Bear in mind that the LC engine has two modes of operation:

• direct injection
• port injection

It will use one or the other or both simultaneously depending on load, temperature, etc. It will also occasionally switch from one to the other to clean intake valve. When the engine is using the direct injectors they are EXTREMELY noisy, like an old diesel engine. You can learn to differentiate the sound between direct and port injector by letting the car idle with the hood open and listening to the engine. There will be times when it will sound like an old sewing machine (direct injection) or get quiet (port injection).

I notice this after driving to or from work lately, so essentially when the car is warmed up. When the ICE shuts off and I blip the throttle I can hear this rattle / tick. It has the same rhythm making me think it’s not a heat shield vibration or similar. There is a pause after the first tick. TICK……tick tick tick tick tick.
I notice it when the car is in park, and the sound is still there when in neutral. It is also there whether the AC is on or not. Not sure if it’s an actuator or hybrid related tick or waste gate. I first noticed it yesterday when I stopped to get out to get the mail. The ICE shut off and that’s when it rattled/ticked.
Any clue what this is?
