250 Prado
Hi All , And thanks for the introduction Admin (El Chorizo)

I live in Western Australia and have been loving my new LC250 Prado (the vehicle is termed a Prado in Australia). I got a VX model in February and have completed 12000km (7500 miles) in it already being my work and my recreational vehicle. In Australia this vehicle is a 2.8 diesel with a 48v mild hybrid and this is the concern I wish to raise. There has been some instances of the 48v arrangement failing and one well documented "test drive exercise" where the vehicle completely shut down after water ingress in a river crossing caused the 48v arrangement to malfunction.

I have recently embarked on an 8000km (5000mi) round trip across Australia and back and am already 1000s of kilometres from a Toyota Dealer. And yes I have had one instance of the electronic warning indicating that the 48v system has malfunctioned and I need to see a Dealer. After switching off and restarting the message went away but obvious things like the motor shutdown when idling did not work initially. The next day (after a very sleepless night worrying and net surfing for info) the vehicle started normally and, having no choice, I have continued on my journey. The motor shut down when stopped and idling started working again and the vehicle is operating normally (touchwood). The only thing (given the stories about water ingress) that I feel could have effected the vehicle are that we drove through heavy rain early that day, that at one stage caused the cruise control to switch off (which is a normal safety feature). This was however on sealed roads with no water crossings or anything of the magnitude that I would think could cause a problem, unless this is a design flaw. What I would like to know is (as Ic250oce has posted) are there any others out there having similar experiences and if so what has happened in your case? It is very nerve wracking knowing the history of some of these instances and having to drive pretty much for another week before I'll be able to visit a dealer at the earliest, which I will obviously do when I can.
Regards Phil

Welcome to the asylum Phils.

I have had my cruise control shut down several times while driving Miss Daisy in the rain on prolonged trips. But it always starts working again. But I have not had any 48 volt system error messages show up.

Good luck and safe travels on your journey.

Please keep us posted.
