Windshield lasted 449 miles

I attribute it to the sharp right angle of the windshield taking up prime realestate and in perfect location for rocks to hit. Due to the angle the rocks cause more damage rather than deflect off. More of a design than anything else. I know on my other vehicles the windshield is sloped way more and rocks bounce off and the energy isn't absorbed by the glass. Our windshield is similar to a Jeep angle and those also have a lot of rock chips and cracks due to flat windshield design. By a different car if it bothers you? I personally love the looks and design of the LC.

Done in by a speeding RAV4 on the Highway. It threw a rock, which connected with the bottom driver’s side. Don’t know if it can be repaired, but this led me to another unpleasant discovery. Apparently most insurance companies (mine included) no longer cover windshields. I thought you were supposed to get through a couple of oil changes per windshield.
I had to replace mine and a week later caught another rock but it was repairable if you 1st Edition with heads up display there’s more to it on the replacement.

I had a 1985 Jeep CJ7 30 years ago and don't remember this happening that often. Does anyone know if it's a common occurrence for Jeeps (Wrangler/Gladiator)?

FYI, when I started a claim online (State Farm), it said it would be free to repair and $100 for replacement. I haven't gone through with the claim yet and am thinking that maybe I'll make it an annual thing if necessary. I got a chip less than 2 months in that has NOT spread, another tiny (3/8") crack somehow (no chip), and then last weekend, got a rock less than 1/2" from the frame that turned quickly into a 6" crack and continuing to grow.

Anyone know if the aftermarket glass might actually be stronger/thicker than OEM?

My windshield replacement was $2,300 and took 4 months. Thankfully, Progressive allows replacement windshields for either a $0 or $50 deductible. I never had coverage before - but knew Land Cruiser would be bad. So added my coverage before getting my Land Cruiser.

Not sure how long everyone is waiting for windshields but I am at about two months and went in for service today and was informed probably at least another month. I was also told they are at about 600 backordered. My guess is I am looking at about two more months at best. Glad it is on the passenger side and not obstructing my vision.

Lucked out and the damage was repairable. Both of my Toyotas have taken rock hits within the last 10 months. That would equal the previous almost 50 years worth of driving.

I’m new to the forum and being a LC owner. Forgive me if this was discussed earlier. I recently had clear protective film put on the front portion of the hood, bumper area and the side mirrors. Did this to protect from rocks, sand and road debris. My last vehicle was littered with paint chips over time. While I was there I noticed they offered the same product to apply for the windshield. They claimed it would increase your chances of not cracking. I declined at the time because I was already getting the windshield tinted along with the other work. I may go back to get it done considering the price of windshields.

Hey guys same here. I'm 41 years old and have maybe cracked two windshields in my driving lifetime and I'm telling you there is something wrong with the windshield. I have one crack I repaired myself and several chips.

That is terrible. I hope that the wait time improves from that. Seems that it’s not just windshields but many parts for this truck are taking much longer to source than expected based on reports on this site. But 4 months on a windshield is ridiculous. If the crack becomes long enough and gets to where it’s in your line of vision, you may get a stopped on the road by a cop and depending on their mood may get a warning or ticket. Personally I am disappointed to see both the seemingly higher increase in cracks and the fact that necessary replacements are not available. The latter issue makes me think it’s a known issue by Toyota and they have a supply issue based on needs by manufacturing which will always get first priority.

I've been told early- to mid-April for my windshield. There are three other owners on the list at my local dealership, which outsources glass work to a local shop. I've been messaging Toyota customer engagement raising the exact same issue... if I fail inspection this spring because they can't get windshields in stock, I'm going to be livid.
