Windshield cracked again

I can confirm jeep windshields are more flat than the LC. I went through several windshields with my jeeps. Only upside is, the windshields other than OEM were not too bad on price. I cant imagine what an LC windshield will cost
+1 to this...my JLU windshield was a target every day I had it.

I got my 1st chip yesterday, hopefully it'll stay a dot and not spread.

Got a chip on Wednesday evening. Came home and parked in Garage. Thursday Morning saw 8+inch crack in the windshield.

I’ve had my LC since June and just got a chip in the windshield. This is a week after getting the windshield completely replaced due to a crack that immediately ran 8”. Needless to say I am not very happy with the quality of the windshields. I’m hoping I can get it plugged before it runs but it’s Sunday and nothing is open. Worst part is the chip is driver side field of vision.

There’s definitely a quality issue. Has anyone had success with Toyota owning up to the poor quality?
How much it costed to replace the Windshield?

Did you get the OEM replacement or aftermarket?

People that constantly get windshield chips/cracks = Tell me you tailgate without telling me you tailgate.
Sorry, not true. 1st chip i received from a dump truck in the fast lane, I was in the slow lane, rock flew from his tire across lane and hit my windshield, 2nd chip came from the other side of the highway from a truck driving in opposite direction.

While the chances of rock chips will never be 0%, maintaining a safe distance away from the vehicles in front of you will reduce the total probability of occurrence.

But hey, you do you.

Similar experience. Was in center lane, some nut 30 yards up cuts three lanes far left to far right to exit, goes through dirt and a rock shot from his left rear tire and hit the upper driver side of my windshield, and that's all she wrote. As someone pointed out elsewhere, these windshields may not be as durable as some on earlier LC models. But maybe this is standard fare for the Prado.

I commuted 60+ miles for much of my prior ‘02 LC’s life. Cracks were routine.

For some time now, Americans have had an extreme preference for large SUVs & trucks, and the trend has increased to outfit those w large off-road tires. Yet, we seem perplexed that we’re often experiencing cracked windshields?

If the windshield mounting in bent, not perfect the glass will be tweaked and under tension, more prone to break.
A shop that can check or maybe a really competent dealer, ask a high end windshield shop.
Or maybe these are substandard windshields for the angle and over all application. Time will tell.

Fellow Colorado folks will know windshields are a joke here, I've never had a car that didn't get the wrath every year, or two at the most. It's standard issue, get a windshield replaced and it's gonna get hit again, often within a day or two. Glass coverage on insurance is a non negotiable.

I'm still wondering if anyone has installed a bug deflector on the hood. (there is an OEM version not sold in the US, and a couple of other choices) And, if a bug deflector might help deflect smaller stones at highway speeds.

The Ineos also has a windshield issue like the LC. I ran across this the other day on maybe prevention? Anyway, this is one solution that someone proposed there.

Jeep Wranglers and CJs have been having this problem since around 1944, and their solution has been Corning's "Gorilla Glass". This is stronger glass, but the main problem is that it costs about 2x as much as Chinese replacement glass, so most drivers would rather get the cheap glass and just replace as needed. The companies that armor Land Cruisers with bulletproof glass have a solution to this problem too.
There are separate threads on this forum about bug deflectors. I have one, but was still able to chip the windshield. Maybe it saved the glass from cracking.

Has anyone put on windshield PPF to prevent this? I just experienced a small crack, about the size of a credit card.

I'd imagine it helps against rock-caused cracks, but I believe mine is a stress-fracture as its in the bottom left-hand corner? Not sure its my first crack, LC is 3 months old
When you get the PPF, it does help , but if you get a chip, you can't repair it.

The glass is adhered to the mounting flange with a thick bead of polyurethane/sealant.
