The Rigid fog lights on the Land Cruiser are selectable between white and amber. But, as I understand it, you're not supposed to use fog lights when you have good visibility (in some jurisdictions it's even illegal), and then when you have bad visibility (rain/fog/dust/snow), that amber is better to use due to the properties of its wavelength. So then what's the point of having white fog lights?

Id love to hear thoughts on this too. One thing ive noticed under clear conditions at night, the white fog lights do add more coverage below the headlights; and out the sides too. I like having the extra coverage

It certainly makes the fact that they can be turned yellow cooler.

That said, I believe traditionally it’s their position on the bumper, being close to the ground, that gave them value as they didn’t reflect off the fog

I keep it on all the time with headlights:
White when normal / good visibility days, and yellow when foggy/rainy days. That sums up all responses above ;)

You can just have yellow all the time if you want others from opposite lanes can see you clearly on the narrow / hidden roads

Fog reflects light, the advantage of fog lights is they are lower to the ground and hopefully under the fog layer, allowing you to see more.
