Westcott Designs roof rack sag/issues

The directions were terrible. I saw the included feet, similar to that of the no-drill 4runner racks from other manufactures. I just installed mine like I did those, cut the stripping for the forward adhesive feet and reinstalled the stripping with some rtv. I don't run a rtt, but I use the rack for lots of other things. I eventually watched the video and saw they recommended building the rack first. That is not how I did it. I put sides on first and then added the fairing and rear pieces, checked the side to side and then pushed up the sides and tightened them when I had about 1/8" along the roof. I'm not saying it's the only way, it just worked for me.

Sorry to thread jack here, I was going to order this rack soon. Would you guys recommend going a different route? Prinsu perhaps?
It's fine. Just need to take your time on the installation, and the directional video misses the part about the forward most adhesive feel. To be honest, these extruded aluminum racks are all pretty similar.

Here’s how mine sits right now, and a pic of the front bracket.

It does seem to have moved down a tiny bit towards the rear middle a bit, I’m going to see if I can adjust it back up n really tighten the bolts and see.
Ya really close. That's about where I'm at too. Sucks yours has settled down some.

I'm actually wondering if that's what happened to mine. I can adjust up and down quite a bit just by painting loosening the bracket to rack bolts. I've tightened the hell out of them now.

Just an observation, wondering if you guys are seeing similar patterns with support.

I've noticed they don't like sending emails or much detail via text... They prefer to talk on the phone.

I don't want to climb the ladder here but my sense is that they are trying to manage liability.

Certainly could be, I’ve never contacted them on anything but the phone and the guy was super nice. He’s the one who originally told me, “man just so you know the front brackets don’t bolt in, they sit in the channel so you will have to cut those, I get it if that’s a deal breaker..” so I certainly can’t bash the company just yet, I’m still under the umbrella of there’s certainly a little sag over time with weight and rattling around on trails and roads. I’ll adjust mine and see what happens in the next month or so

I just went ahead and ordered the Prinsu, was between the two anyway. Thank you and I hope you guys are able to resolve your issues.
Hope they see this thread and it helps encourage some change.

Let us know how the prinsu is!!

If my adjustments I'm making now start to shift in the next few months I'll probably switch. Also will get so loud about this 😂.

I very much prefer the Rhino Reconn rack. Super happy after several months, RTT and off-roading with RTT attached. A lot of effort put into design, instructions and no silicone required as they use engineered brackets similar to OEM rack.

I got my rack from them all the way back in September - the feet everyone is talking about weren't included at that time. Did anyone else that ordered their rack back then get the feet?

I'm thinking about reaching out at this point since I don't want the rack to start bending.......

I'm redoing mine now. Just got the double sided 3m tape. The guidance they gave me was to get everything in place, the front lip should be touching the vehicle. And then once everything is tightened up, then you add the non bolted front brackets.

I'm curious @JordanJ - take a look at my pic and see how close the side rails are. This is how much clearance I'm left with if the front is barely touching the vehicle. They said it was important that it did.

Is that roughly what your clearance or is mine tighter?
A bit off topic, but is that a canopy you have attached to your rack? If so, what kind and do you like it?

I also got mine back on Sept/Oct and did not get any front brackets that sit in the weather channel. I guess I will call them and have them handy in case I need them.

I have no sagging and still have the small gap from front to rear on both sides. The gap in the rear is slightly larger than the front.

I only bought this rack due to the install video on YouTube. I followed it and installed it very easily.

I was also one of the first to order the side molle panel and I think because of that it came with no directions. Hopefully it ships with directions now. I called them and they explained it to me and it became apparent how easy it was.

I ordered early on also and didn't get those brackets. My rack isn't drilled for them. I'm gonna call and see if they'll send them, may not need them if I keep the weight off the front. I'm new at this can you link me to your boxes and how you mounted them? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Surely my friend, stand by. Oh! And the boxes are the harbor freight rifle cases, they do sales occasionally on them at their like $100, otherwise they’re $150? Something like that

Update:
I called and left a message about the front brackets yesterday. I got a text and email this morning that they have shipped.

@Brando so the cases are Apache from harbor freight. Had them for years on my Tacoma and never had issues with the seals, just faded in the sunlight but that’s unavoidable obviously. Bolts needed are 1/4”-20 and .5” length, I’ll post a picture of the ones I used. Then you just drill 4 holes where they line up to the slots (wherever you want it mounted). Slide the slotted end in, line it up with your hole and tighten it up. Def takes some finagling to get em all. It helped me to take the 2 rails completely off and get it all secured on the ground and then reinstall the two rails. And you can see, I siliconed the bolts as well, just in case. And you can fit quite a bit in there! I’ve got all my recovery gear in one case, and all my maintenance gear in the other.
