Victory 4x4 Platform Roof Rack

I just installed the new Victory 4x4 platform rack which was just announced recently and started shipping about a week ago.

The rack uses the factory rails and only increases overall height by the thickness of the brackets, which I think is about 1/8". I had been waffling back and forth on getting their cross rails for the past year. I don't need a full platform for what I intend to put on the roof, and I did not want to increase overall height due to my garage clearance. This seemed like the best option out there.

I did the install by myself which wasn't bad at all. Quality seems decent, no issues with fit. The max hole to hole distance you can get (front to back) is 42" incase you're trying to figure out what you can mount, I wasn't able to get this information from Victory beforehand. I did some highway driving yesterday and did not notice any wind noise at all.

My only gripe, which I anticipated, was the ease of mounting things and changing my roof setup up often. The cross bars only have through holes/slots as opposed to T rail extrusions. I may modify the rack to utilize extrusions in the future but will stick with it as is for now. I have a Roam 83L on the way along with traction board mounts. I travel with two dogs in the backseat so having any available roof space is going to be great (I hope).

The cross bars and fairing all have two screws/nuts per side. You would be able to take those all off and leave the large brackets that huge the factory rails. There is so much adjustability with the rails (super long slots), I'm guessing you would actually want to just loosen them and slide them out of the way as you're detailing sections of the roof.

I also recently installed mine and couldn’t be happier with it. Price point, looks ,and seems to be really well made. What I like the most about it is the super low profile that will allow me to lift my LC and still fit inside my garage.

Not the best pics, but I have the front cross bar adjusted all the way forward and rear all the back, middle one was eye balled to be in the middle. From as far as I could reach, the front sits just under 2" above the roof, middle is at about 2", and rear is at 2-1/8". In the pic, you can see it is still below the antenna.

Mluk - Congrats on the install with the new kit, as your the kid right now w/ a new toy. Several of these style mods on OE rails are now available, and many of the on-road LC are looking for solution to utility improvement without sacrificing day-to-day noise. Can you give us a driving review after you get some highway miles on her?

I think for $600, victory should have given 5 total crossmembers instead of 3. It would be an extra $90 per crossmemeber, so this is really $800 to match other similar roof racks and it’s not even an including the roof rails.

Thanks! So far so good, the only wind noise I have is just from the big ol mirrors!

The full setup is not very long, putting the 3 crossmembers spaced fairly close. I'm just putting a Roam box and traction board mounts up, I don't see what I would do with 2 additional crossmembers. Even 2 really is enough. I think I'd really prefer extrusions with T slots which would be fairly easy to swap over to and give plenty more mounting options. I really don't understand why Victory didn't go this route.

For those with this rack, I want to hear your experience/strategy with mounting stuff up there.

I'm currently trying to install Roam Rugged mounts and it is a complete PITA. I have small hands but it's extremely difficult to hold fasteners to tighten them on the underside of the cross bars. I've taken the front cross bar off to start everything but it's still extremely difficult to get my fingers or a wrench to hold a nut on the bottom after the fact. And the clearance to the roof is minimal so I can barely squeeze my mini ratchet with socket.

BTW, I got the 83L case and the Rugged mounts should just barely fit the rack with the front and rear cross bars set to the max of their positions.
