Hi, hello.
I'm trying to find the height of the Thule Raised Rail Edge Feet. It looks like they could be about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch (hopefully more) shorter than the yakima/oem crossbars.
Anyone out there that might have some info, it would be appreciated.

Last question, if you have these, how quiet are they? I have the OEM crossbars and was a bit surprised at the amount of noise there was even at slow speeds.

Thank you in advance.

I am also on a quest for height reduction. Ironically, with my OEM crossbars attached and my Yakima FatCat mounted with skis, I can’t fit into the Lionshead parking garage. Which more or less is the only place I’m probably ever going with all that stuff on top of the truck.

I noticed last night that Victory 4x4 has some crossbars that appear to only elevate from the side rails trivially. I measured the OEM crossbars at 3 inches higher than the rails at the highest point; these might give back 2 inches or a little more. It could be enough to matter.

I might look into these, and also looking at the ProSpeed and ARB racks, both of which are very low profile. The ProSpeed rack claims to be lower than the shark fin - which actually makes me wonder whether the feet of my Yakima Skybox would fit under it.

The ARB is in the style of the OEM GX550 rack but much lower profile. I like the look but it’s a new product and not much info yet. Obviously both of those racks are considerably more expensive than crossbars.

I was about to grab those victory crossbars, but the width is too thick and the roof top boxes wouldn't clamp on those...

I ordered the prospeed bc of the low profile, it's supposed to deliver this week

I'll get some photos up when it's installed

After I posted, I found this thread which was very helpful. Mabye it'll help others.

Thank you. Someone posted a ProSpeed install in the roof rack thread. No doubt it looks low profile. It’s probably the right solution.

If I can get the road shower on the rack and in my garage, I don't care what it costs!!

Edit - looks like the ProSpeed crossbars accept T-channel mounts. That’s a game changer.

I have the universal mounts on my Yakima FatCat - they are quick-release and mount/unmount in 5 minutes, but they raise about 2 1/2” all on their own, before factoring in the actual ski rack.

With the ProSpeed rack and T-channel mounts I bet I could cut 4 inches off of my current clearance, which if true would make the clearance around 83” with skis and around 80” without. I might be able to leave the FatCat on during the week.

Now just a matter of the $1200 to buy that rack…

I’d recommend checking to ensure your ski bindings will fit facing down with the lower setup. I had to add a spacer to our Thule ski rack to put boards facing down, making it a tight fit in the Park City garage. Now, there’s no way I can enter with skis on the car.
Good point. At a certain place you get so low profile that there’s not enough room for the bindings facing down. I’ll check that.
