Find it odd he is pushing the puralator filter on one hand. Yet doing oil changes and leaving the old filter in...

Makes perfect sense if you watched the session on oil filters and filtration. I always thought a mid change filter was the better of the 2 options and his DATA has proven to me the opposite is true. The DI motor has put the lubrication world on its ear and frankly, reversed almost everything. Valvoline has now caused a HUGE PARADIGM shift in oil world, aka tribology. All these folks cutting open filters and discussing build quality etc usually miss the most important part....how well they filter.....

Im at about 19,800 miles on mine and I replaced the oil 4 times already and will be scheduling my 5th one sometime next week. I try to replace the oil every 3-5k miles. I use costco full synthetic so the price for me to change the oil isnt very high. I didnt change the Tranny fluid or any of the diff fluids though. I'll probably change all of those at 30k miles or before hunting season starts in October (when I really put a lot of miles on my car).

It's only $45-50 bucks to do it yourself and it's very easy. It's such a nice vehicle and with the tight tolerances of the engine and the turbo, it's a no brainer to do it every 3-5k or even every 6 months. I do that with my LC250. I guess some of us are a bit insane but it's not a bad thing in this case

Those are my thoughts too. What is the cheapest thing you can put into an engine? Fresh clean motor oil. Far less expensive than other vital engine parts.

I don’t remember who did the comparison, TMOG, or Project farm, or someone else, but Costco oil has been evaluated by one of the talking heads on YouTube.

I never get out of Costco for less than $300, but most of the time it’s over $400..

It was project farm. I think it preformed similarly to the Mobil1. That was enough for me to use it

Good report here with data to back it up speaking to pretty much all quality oils produce the same wear results. After reading this I'll pretty much use any synthetic that meets my requirements for my older Land Cruisers with flat tappet cams provided the Zinc and Phosphorous levels are good and the detergent package looks good and pretty much any synthetic in everything else. Looks like the proper viscosity and proper intervals are the major players here and not the Brand name or the price you pay.

I won't however use Mobile 1 again after it quickly sludged up the PCV oil trap on the Volvo which is a $500 DIY job and can result in complete destruction of the engine which nearly happened on ours when it failed.
