So we left Charlotte this afternoon with the camper for a week. A few pounds heavier than normal and 95F outside. We made it to New River Gorge National Park without issue. Transmission temps were fine and we got over 12mpg with some decent hills (the 1hr of traffic likely also helped our mpg). While I disconnected the camper I got a “Hybrid System Malfunction”. I proceeded to setup camp and then drove the Toyota down the street; everything seemed ok, even with the malfunction, the electric motor was engaging. Came back to camp and turned the Toyota off, and then started it up to discover the malfunction message is gone,

Monday we proceed to Pennsylvania and originally thought we would visit the local dealer tomorrow (Saturday) only to see on the site their service is closed Saturday. Assuming we do not get another error in the park, I am eying a visit to th PA dealer on Monday.

Anyone else get the Hybrid Malfunction Error only to see it go away after cycling the engine a few times.

Did you get the error when you disconnected the power cable? I’m thinking a spike in the electrical, triggering that malfunction light. Gone after restart would also make sense since the fault is no longer present.

So the malfunction occurred while backing the camper up (not watching the dash) and disconnecting and pulling forward a few feet. I am not sure exactly when, I just noticed it when I pulled forward. I kind of doubt the 7pin is involved since it is just 12V (not high voltage) and since we run lithium batteries in the camper I have disconnected the 12V charge circuit to the camper. The 7 pin only powers the marker lights, turn signals, and brakes.

It is also worth noting that none of the other lights on the dash came on, just the hybrid malfunction alert. There was no shaking or anything abnormal; then a couple engine cycles later the error was gone.

Just a guess.
What is the charge discharge bar graph showing when you are driving with the trailer?
I do not tow with the Cruiser so only guessing.
Maybe you are not recharging enough/ often enough if always discharging due to the tow load?
