Mike Valentine died recently and was a pioneer in this field, and co-founded Cincinnati Microwave in 1976, which led to the development of the first Escort-branded radar detectors. He was well-liked by his customers and often answered the phone at the company and would speak with them at length, me included. He pushed every other radar detector company to be better, more innovative, and the V1 personally saved me thousand of dollars in tickets.Go with Escort. They have been around for decades. They are high priced like Valentine, but better looking. That Valentine DB on the back of every Road & Track / Motor Trend magazine completely turned me off. Don't like the dude. Don't like the company as a result.
I am sorry to hear he passed away.Mike Valentine died recently and was a pioneer in this field, and co-founded Cincinnati Microwave in 1976, which led to the development of the first Escort-branded radar detectors. His advertising and product aesthetics may have turned you off, but it's weak to disrespect the man considering everything he's done.
No worries. The V1 always killed Escort in detection range back in the day, and having directional arrows helps so much in identifying the source. After running other RDs for without arrows, there was no way I was going back. Back when the car mags ran tests, the V1 always won. It's weird that anyone would ignore clear results because of a silly bias. For me, it was always function over form.I am sorry to hear he passed away.
The marketing of a brand is the most crucial element of any product. Poor marketing equals poor reputation.
My Porsche Club casual and racer 911 guys always despised Valentine for that very reason. Hence, we go for Escort.
Just my opinion. We are just having fun here.
It is strange indeed. I've just always stuck with Escort. My dad had an Escort in his 911 when I was a kid. They were always smaller than the other RD's which is handy. No worries. It's a talk about radar detectors. Nothing else.Radar detectors for an LC. Now I understand why so many members are complaining about fuel mileage!![]()

See my post earlier in this thread. It will work for the escort you have. Taps into rearview mirror.HELP WITH LC Mirror wire tap for Escort?
We've been on a waiting list on the mainland for a 2024LC since last May with plans for driving 6mo, then shipping to our home in Hawaii. But suddenly last week stumbled in on a just-received 25LC in our preferred colors and premium options in Hawaii. Done!! But no audio shop wants to touch running a 12v accessory cord to the headliner (they only want to sell high-end audio gear).
SO I have to wire my Escort myself - which I have done before, but not on this advanced of vehicle. I've figured out how to get into the rearview mirror cavity & overhead console. Does anyone know if there's a simple 12v wire (& gnd) that I can tap into on the rearview mirror for powering a radar detector? Or do I HAVE TO run it down the pillar some way, through the firewall and onto a fuse block in the engine compartment?
Help greatly appreciated...
