Hi all. I have a new Prado GXL that I love, for the most part. But every time I reverse, the brakes let out a deafening squeal. Embarrassing trying to reverse park in town! Toyota dealer has told me they are aware of the problem and that Toyota are looking at a fix. Apparently same problem on some 300Series. Can anyone tell me if they have same problem and have found a solution. I took mine to the local brake guy and he has machined the rotors and all good for now. Toyota dealer tells me the machining of the rotors will only stop the noise for a week or two. Any advice welcome.

Welcome CJ! Have been following multiple threads regarding this problem. Apparently, no solution as yet, but everything points to the brake pad material, possibly reformulated to be more environmentally friendly. Sounds logical to me. I have faith Toyota will make it good.

Given the Lexus is the same vehicle as the Prado, just with a petrol engine (I know, I am just asking for trouble with such a statement), you would think Toyota would just swap out pads and rotors as they did on the Lexus. Oh well, I have always had a good run with Toyota so I will give them some time to make things right. And hope that the machining of my current rotors will last longer than the 2 weeks the Toyota service guy said it would :)

Please call Toyota customer service 1-800-331–4331 to complain about the break noise. Mine have squealed since the day I bought it and I’m at 5000 miles. They told me they won’t fix this or put out an TSB until enough. People complain to them

Thaks. Yes have complained back through my Toyota dealer who assures me that I am on the priority list once Toyota find a fix. I do not have much confidence there is a priority list. Pretty poor service to date and no offer to do anything to try to do some form of temporary fix. I did have the rotors machined two weeks ago and all has been good, although they did make a minor squeal in reverse yesterday, so my machining of the rotors may well indeed only be a very short term solution.

Yes same awful problem
Whole neighborhood can hear me reversing out of my driveway, the brake squealing is so loud. Toyota service said they sprayed them but made no difference at all.

I took my 1958 to my dealer for it's 5K check. I also mentioned the brake squeal. After checking to confirm, they informed me it was the rear brake pads and replaced them under warranty. Funny thing is, they had two other LCs in the service bay with the same issue. Service also said that a TSB will be coming shortly and Toyota is very aware of the issue.

Taking mine to dealer today for first oil change and I was gonna ask about the brake issue. I hope they can resolve it. Very annoying and only does it after it sits all night, so hard to replicate again unless it would stay at the dealer over night.

I am so embarrassed by the reverse brake squeal that I have started backing into parking spots. It is by far the worst of any car I have ever owned. The first time my wife drove my car she ran inside the house and said something is wrong with the Land Cruiser, turns out it was just the reverse brake squeal. It is ridiculous and a TSB should be issued.

I am too! I went to the dealer yesterday and they said it is humidity from parking in the garage at night. Total BS. It does it even when I don't park in my garage. I plan on calling Toyota on Monday to complain. For this expensive of a vehicle this should not be an issue...

It looks like the LC300/LX600 and Sequoia brakes are the same as USDM LC250, which have Toyota OEM replacement part numbers 04465-60830 front and 04466-57010 rear.
I've had good luck with Akebono brake pads for quiet performance, and their part numbers are ACT2442 front and ACT2511 rear application, but appear to not be available/stocked yet!
However I did find Powerstop has several pads available for the front (D2442) but not the rears. Their Z36 front truck ceramic pads are under $70 a pair and may be a good replacement?

I reported to the dealer, and left the car with the dealer, and they acknowledge the squeal on reverse. And they have advised to leave the car for 2 days, to inspect and let me know. Will keep you posted.

After testing my truck and determining that it had a moderate amount of squealing in reverse, they replaced the front LH and RH side shim kits, the anti-rattle spring, the callipers, and the front pads. And it's been going very smoothly lately. They have suggested replacing the disc if the sounds persist. And all replaced under warranty.

.... I don't have much faith, 3rd visit back to shop for 2 different issues on my brand new 2025 LC, first Toyota I've ever owned, might be the last if they can't get the camera and brake squeal issues sorted! Also, they just tried to charge me for a rental loaner pickup, another manager had promised (in writing- luckily) to comp that. Striking out so far on brand new truck off the lot....
