I was at the Annacis Auto Terminal to drop off some export units to Japan and spotted a few new 4Runners for the first time. About 2 dozens of LCs are believed to be on the same vessel. You know what! I like my LC more than new runner for sure!

For generations, Toyota has always been good at finding some detailed way to visually diminish the overall good lines of the 4Runner.

Nice, did you see my Mudbath Tacoma TRD Pro? Its taking forever to get to dealer.

I wish the LC came with that much lift/ground clearance stock.

It's not all that clear to me how there would be a difference in ground clearance between the new 4Runner and 250, since they share the same frame and suspension.

Likely due to the shock package different trims get. TRD OR 4Runners get a bilstein 4600 which may be a tad taller than the tokicos that base models get.

It's definitely taller. Look at those rear wheel wells. You could stick your head in there haha. Same tire size too.

Couldn’t the rear wheel well space could be due to the different body shape and not necessarily the ground clearance of the vehicle? I always thought ground clearance was due to the ladder frame and suspension components.

Shape of the body does play a role. If you measure from the rear diff, they are probably the same since really only tire size will change that. But also just looking at the running boards, it appears to be slight higher in height than my running boards.

I have a love hate with the 6th gen runner design. Looks cool but also a bit too “bro”ish and then the interior ceiling space is just way too tight imho. Made me think of my old 4th gen 4Runner and how tight in space that was.

Would taller shocks reduce down travel?

I would imagine not? I am not a shock guru though… that said, everything I’ve seen on shocks, like the bilstein 5100, suggest that the extra length does not limit up travel. I think there’s a lot of factors at play though and there’s not a simple cut and dry answer.

True. We’ll have to wait until someone measures Ramp Travel Index (RTI) on these.

My guess is that the TRD OR will be below the LC FE w/SDM that was tested on car&driver as they do not have the SDM. I’m not sure if the TRD OR have the same double offset CV axles that the 4th gen Tacoma has but if they do that may help a bit in addition to the bilstein 4600 shocks that they have. I find it strange that LCs have the tripod CV design which limits a bit of travel. Overall thought I think the TNGA-F vehicles outperform their J150 counterparts.
