MPG

I'll wait until my mpgs level off before I call Toyota this or that. With 21 tanks and no change to my driving style, each month's average is better than the last. 18.4 in August, 19.3 in September and 20.1 in October so far. I have no illusions this will go to Prius levels, but I suspect it's going to be good enough, all things considered.

The LC and Prius have two entirely different types of hybrid systems.

Hello MPG thread, I've had my LCLC since the end of August and was getting pretty decent milage at the beginning (23.5mpg). Since then, it's gone down and I'm averaging around 17.6mpg (I converted it to Freedom Units). I'm not very impressed, but at the end of the day it's not a huge thought for me UNLESS there is something actually wrong with the truck. I'm at 2000mi.

Can anyone tell me how the hybrid should be assisting exactly? I turned on the Max gauge and the only time I see it is when I'm feathering the gas after it's shut off at a light for a bit. Should it be going on all acceleration or just heavy acceleration? I also don't find it very consistent. Truck warms up and the hybrid barely kicks in unless I've been stopped at a light for a little while. I dunno, just thought it would do more.

I'm in the same boat. Its a double whammy this time of year, winter blend fuel and the extra time it takes for the hybrid system to meet specifications to engage means lower MPG IMO.

Using 93 octane ethanol free fuel, I am still getting 24+ mpg. When I first picked up Miss Daisy from the dealership, on my first fill up, the Toyota computer told me that I had ~316 miles to empty, which has increased with each fill up. Today, the computer told me I had 369 miles until empty.

91 Octane (No 93 octane available at our 4K altitude) I feel is worth the trade-off, but the cost of ethanol-free is prohibitive hereabouts.

I have paid $3.49 to $4.99 per gallon here for the 93 octane E0 fuel. Today, it was $4.49 per gallon for the 93 octane E0 fuel.

I have had mine for almost a month and have 1100 miles on it. my MPG is sitting at 21.8 MPG. I am pretty light on the throttle..

Same here. At sea level, 20 inch tires inflated to 37 PSI, roof rails, in normal mode, and mixed use suburban driving I am consistently getting 23 mpg on the button. If no highway use at all it is 21.6 mpg. Looking forward to see what can be done in eco mode on long distance trips.

A pleasant surprise. I was expecting the worst after all the bad experiences others have had.

I have found that tires make a big difference too. With 275/70/R18 Mickey Thompson BAJA Boss tires (66 pounds per tire), mpg will be degraded.

Done a few things to my LC and see the MPG go up and down in result. My LC has 2150 miles on it if that matters. Should state I only fill up my cruiser with premium. 90% of my driving in city and highway on weekends with it always being in normal mode. I noticed that the green mpg bar is a game to me now while driving lol.

Going in order of my mods with mpg impacts:
  • Bone stock: 21
  • Roof rack predator steps: 20
  • Tire upgrade to toyo open country at3: 19.5
  • Removed both air dam and stock skid plate: 19.2
  • Installed Steel engine and trans skid plate: 20
    • The jump back to 20 is due to me learning how to drive the LC better. Also think it has something to do with aerodynamics with the skids being back on the LC. Not an expert but just my opinion.

Update on my last post here. I just filled up and ran the mpg calculation manually. My actual mpg is 23 vs car is telling me 20.1. For this big ass tank with a roof rack that’s pretty good imo lol.

The city gas mileage on my 2024 1958 trim had been 17 mpg. This was disappointing as less than the EPA rating 21, but the highway mileage was 27 mgp which is better than the EPA rating...

Around 5000 miles, I put a bottle of Liquid-Moly DIJectron injector cleaner in the gas tank before a fill-up. The city mileage improved to 22 mpg and highway remains 27 mpg. The improvement has been stable for several hundred miles with various different testings. Hoping it stays improved above EPA rating for both city and highway and this information may be used to others as this forum has been helpful to me.

I believe the Land Cruiser engine has both direct injection injectors and traditional injection. I'd heard many reports of direct injection having clogging problems after 50k or so, so I thought maybe, just maybe some early injector cleaning could help the fuel economy. There are different injector cleaners for Direct Injection and traditional injection, I went the direct injection cleaner as it would seem the most likely to need cleaning.

The engine had received a 5000 mile synthetic oil change, and also one at 800 after the break-in period.

Huh. You joined today and within 20 mins posted about a product in three different threads. That’s unusual.

I am not a petrochemical engineer. But i did stay at a Holiday Inn Express a few months ago.

Does this product contain MMT? If so, the Land Cruiser manual specifically says not to use it (page 680).
