Hey everyone,
I wanted to get some community feedback on a roof rack I am working on, I will be building the Alpha version in coming months.
I was looking to install an aftermarket roof rack on my 1958, (Full Length, Aftermarket style). And the aftermarket ones look the exact same, contoured base to match roofline and flat top. I understand the need for the perfectly flat top (I call it the Chip Hazard Haircut Look) and it is to accommodate rooftop tents, but for my use, I don't plan on using a rooftop tent, so the flat top design is unneeded.
I wanted to create something that looks a little different, as selling another roof rack that's been made by 1000 different companies isnt anything special.
Thus, I started to design the roof rack with a bit more character. You can see the bodylines of the land cruiser 250 present in the design, the bold hood/ fender design shows up in the forward section of the rack, while the upswept beltline/ window arch shows up in the rear.
The wind fairing in the front also features a cutout section to allow for a lightbar if you wanted to, but the design is a nod to the hood profile as viewed from the front of the LC.
I wanted to land somewhere in the middle of the OEM Toyota Roof basket found on the FE, and an aftermarket option full length
These will be hand built in Canada by yours truly. Powder coated Aluminum is planned. Same song as dance as other racks, as material thickness and choice isnt really up for debate. This is only a design change away from the normal look of these racks.
I have a flat top version made aswell, of course for those who need a perfectly level mounting spot for RTTs (Pics attached)
Go ahead and tell me what you think! Is this something that may have some interest? Who better to ask than the owners themselves!
