Insurance Premium

Similar situation to OP 3 cars and home on State Farm insurance with all the discounts, Illinois the 1958 LC is 118.00 per month

I’m about $218/month for $500/250k liability with $1k deductibles on comp and collision here in Chicago. Also bundled with condo and umbrella.

Unfortunately seems like insurance rates have skyrocketed the last few years.
Can you get USAA? They allowed me to shift more of my liability to my umbrella policy. You might find some savings that way.

Currently, I'm at $248.42 $300k/$100k limits, $500 col/$500com.

I've called around. Progressive and a few others were substantially cheaper. $133.67 ($802 per 6 months) for the same coverage for my LC 1958. $1011 per 6 months for LC and Acura RDX.

The catch for me is that we have to have the "bundle" to get the discount on our homeowners (which tripled this year, btw). And if we dropped the LC and only insured 1 car through Statefarm, we would lose the muti-car discount of $388.00 per 6 months.

Unfortunately for us, Statefarm is one of the only insurers left in our area due to fire and hail threats. Additionally, Statefarm is no longer opening new policies in our area. So they have us locked in and know we have zero options.

I have called and asked why our premiums are so high and have been told by both corporate and our agent that they base their rates on the segment of the driver and not to us specifically. Meaning, I pay a higher rate because other people driving similar vehicles can't drive and get tickets or get into crashes more frequently. Same applies to homeowners, doesn't matter that I actively do fire mitigation on my property and live on a burn scar (old wildfire area). I pay for the other higher risk homeowners that may not be as proactive.

The only silver lining is that I did call my agent directly and let him know that I was going to file a complaint with our state insurance division (DORA) stating that they were engaging in extortion via higher auto premiums tied to "bundled" home owners and they did drop it $167 per month (~$1k per 6 months) so I guess that is a small win. If it lasts.
I live pretty near you and USAA exited our area a number of years ago, which drove me to State Farm. We’re in a forest here as well and I’m bracing for the day we end up with no good options for homeowners.

Catch me driving my other car through your town on a pleasant Saturday morning sometime. I go down Perry Park road, then to 24 in the Springs, to 67 in Woodland Park to 126, then back around to Castle Pines the front way down 285. It’s a nice drive in a Porsche.

Just curious how much do you guys pay for your LC insurance and what do you cover?

For me, State Farm is charging me $245 per month with liability, $1000 comprehensive, $1000 collision, and uninsured motorists. I have no negative mark on my record and three cars and my house with Statefarm so all the discounts. My credit score is 800+ so I couldn't think of anything that could negatively impact my premium. I am in California BTW.

I know CA is a very expensive area but this premium still feel a bit too high. What are you paying for yours?
The only useful comparison would be with someone living very near to you. Insurance rates vary greatly depending on location. Having said that, living in the Midwest with a deductible that is negligible compared to yours, my rate is significantly lower than yours. If I moved to your area, I'm sure I'd be stunned by the increase in cost.

Depends on where in Midwest. If you are in a hail prone area, insurance will be expensive. This is partially because hail damage is one of the easiest ways to total a car, and some people use it as a way to commit “insurance fraud” that is impossible prove foul play.

I do this for a living. Your state, credit score, driving record, and prior insurance history are going to be the biggest drivers of your rate. Overthinking companies is a waste of time, they’re all trying to raise their rates in the states that will allow it. If you are primarily trying to save money, your best bet is to have a GOOD independent agent(local or a large national company) shop it every few years and also participate in any discounts available(telematics, e-docs, etc.—-they can be big discounts depending on carrier).

Geico
Liability, collision and comprehensive, $1,000 deductible, $0 deductible for glass (very convenient as I already had to replace two windshields on my other cars in the past 5 years).
Two drivers (my wife and myself), two vehicles
$676 for 6 months for the LC, $620 for 6 months for the other car (a 2 year old Lexus).
Both my wife and I have clean driving record - no at-fault accidents, no tickets during past 20 years, and only had one claim about 10 years ago when somebody rear-ended me (their fault, so paid 100% by their insurance). According to the Geico guy I spoke with this makes a BIG difference. Even one speeding ticket 3 years ago can make a huge difference in your premium.

Live in Colorado which has some of highest insurance rates. For my LC with 1K deduct its $122 per month but I also bundle with 2 other cars and homeowners with USAA

That’s not nearly as high. I am more than double and I have basically perfect record with every possible discount applied. I just live in the wrong place

I live in FL. home to some of the higher (if not the highest) rates in the USA.

Now, I am very lucky to have USAA because nobody has been able to touch their rates, I price shop every few years and USAA is always a bit lower than everyone else.

However, USAA can be vary widely depending on which of the USAA subdivisions you are assigned to.

I have a neighbor who drives a 2024 Tacoma and he pays double what I pay but he was assigned to a different USAA subdivision.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I read on another forum that Officers and their families are assigned to one subdivision (the most competitive rates), NCOs and their families, Enlisted and Families of Enlisted (the least competitive rates).

With that said, my LC is $145 a month for 250/500 with a $1,000 deductible.

I also have 3 other cars with them, home owners and an umbrella policy.

Surprisingly, my daughter who drives a Jeep Wrangler is only slightly more $160 a month.

My wife (granted she is with Allstate) because she pays for her car through her business is far worse ($220 a month), but my wife is also a terrible driver, we both agreed that I would teach our daughter how to drive.

As one of the previous posters said there are numerous factors so it hard to compare. I think the insurance industry is in large part a scam and states have insurance regulators/commissioners which are supposed to police rate hikes but I rarely see it as the regulators generally come from the industry or will back down when insurers threaten to leave.

State farm
5000 miles
250/500/100
Comp/coll: 1000
Uninsured: 100/300
131 per month.
If 7500 annual miles, would be 174.00

Have umbrella/2 homes/4 vehicles with State Farm and Geico would be a few bucks less than this. State Farm is going crazy in California.

Try Progressive w/ an independent agency. Get a 'zero glass' comp. deductible for our rock-chip prone windshields. Fits perfectly there but get a quote from Progressive Direct online and compare it to an identically equipped one from a well established indy agency. They can get the preferred rates you won't get on direct. It is the way. At least it is in the mid-south. Some Indy agency owner 30+ years told me.

One of the few advantages of age is at 72, in high-cost premium Minnesota, I pay an annual premium of $1416 ($118/mth.) together with a Mazda cx-30 with the 2.5 turbo costing $1085 annually ($90/mth). I work through an agent and did switch saving $700 annually. It definitely pays to shop around.
I’m 69 with no accidents, tickets, good credit, own rental property so have everything with Shelter and have had for over 30 years. My agent tells me our auto insurance is increasing due to our ages. My husband, 66 also has no tickets, accidents, great credit. He’s paying $760/6 months for a 2025 Tundra and I pay $800/6 months for the LC. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

Age shouldn't be a surcharge until your 85. Shop it. Start w/ a independent agent who has Progressive.

One thought, I think I’d rather pay a little more for State Farm, who reliably pays claims rather than try to go cheaper and have to fight for coverage like I’ve heard about some of the other carriers.

A friend of my wife's had State Farm and they refused to cover an accident because the Police refused to respond saying that they were too busy.

The 911 employee said to exchange info with the other driver and that would be enough.

State Farm said nope and really gave my wife's friend the run around.

Eventually, the other insurance company paid the claim.

2025 LC 1958
Michigan resident
52 year old Male
No tickets, no accidents

Farmers Insurance
$250k/$500k Bodily Injury
$250k PIP
$100k Property Damage
$250k/$500k Uninsured Motorist
$100 Glass Deductible
$1,000k Collison/Comp Deductible

$772 per year

You cannot do an apples-to-apples comparison of auto insurance. But I pay $150/mo on mine through Progressive with only a $50 deductible on glass (have had to replace 2 windshields already so this has saved me thousands!). I'm in Michigan where auto insurance used to be super high because we use a hybrid system that gives unlimited medical to victims - but it seems insurance in other states has been increasing at a much faster rate than Michigan lately.
