Instrument Cluster Layout options

I just finally figured out how to get the settings cog off the center. 🤣

I'm a dual gauge kind of guy, even though the RPM gauge has little useful purpose unless you have it in manual mode.
I'm the same way. I like to see old-school analog tach and speedometer. I find digital speed readouts distracting, but pretty much every car with a digital dash does that now. I guess that's why I still prefer mechanical watches over smart watches.

What I'd like to see........

Left, Tach with the small turbo gauge inset and digital Fuel economy.
Center, Oil Press, Xmsn temp, 12v voltage meter and the digital Hybrid battery %
Right, Speedometer with the small Tire pressure and Pitch and roll.

Dash icon/light for warning messages and a physical button to read "messages"

My F150 has a dial speedometer with no numbers. 😐. Why on Earth would anyone do that, designer must be some sort of degenerate.

I prefer an analog watch as well But, I need reading glasses, so hands and dial gauges are faster for me (though I can read the digital just fine.)
 
Probably a stupid question but I’m going to ask anyway, I see that you’re getting 390 miles on a full tank. And about 23 miles to the gallon. I have 1200 miles on mine. I’m only getting 297 miles on a full tank and my average is 18 miles per gallon. Please tell me that my car will get better with age and more miles?!
Not really a stupid question. The 23.5 is the average since I bought Miss Daisy. I have not reset that, ever. The 390 is what Toyota says my ‘distance to empty’ is. I rarely drive that far. My GF and I take regular potty breaks, when needed, or just stretch our legs. Though I have driven 400-450 miles non stop in my younger years.

I routinely get over 25 mpg, especially on back roads where the speed limit is 45 to 55 MPH. Head winds kill fuel economy. The one trip we made down to Florida this winter, the first tank of gas was doing posted speed limits, even 70 MPH on cruise control on the interstates. I filled up with 93 octane ethanol free (which is all I use) at Buc-ee’s just south Of Macon, Ga and continued on the interstate, only I set the cruise control to 60 MPH. I never had to hit the brakes until I got off the interstate again to fill up the tank. To me, it is much less stressful to just set the cruise control at 60, and let people haul ass as they please. I just get no joy from driving 70 MPH. At this stage of my life, I am just not in a hurry.

Now get off my lawn.. (JK 🤣)

Are there options beyond Driver Support (ACC and TJA), Maps, and Alerts? I'd love it if some of the side display options were available in the center sections.
That's horrible design. ACC is useless, Maps is useless if you use AA/Carplay, Alerts are useless. In Yaris GR you can at least put big gear number, but that's useless in LC aswell.
 
I think I recall reading a study about this, but regardless I've experienced this myself with my kids (now in their 20s); kids raised with digital devices don't process non-text / character inputs very well at all. Analog watches are entirely foreign to them, and speedometers baffle them.

In my experience (45 min to 1 hour commute one way, every day, for 20 years), drivers are becoming less and less engaged with the act of driving. So coupling that with their reduced ability to process non-text inputs, the functionality of a gauge (a split second glance to see if you're essentially where you want to be, i.e. I don't care if I'm doing 64 or 68 miles per hour, I care that I'm somewhere between 60 and 70 when I take a quick glance and put my eyes back o the road) is meaningless.

Interesting (to me) tangent on that is that Gen Z seems to have a huge portion of population that can't watch a TV show without subtitles, sort of reinforcing the concept. They didn't grow up processing verbal / audible sounds augmented with visual queues of body language and such; they're far more likely to have had their interactions be through text, even when sitting right next to each other.

Back to the original topic, for anyone who goes single dial/gauge and want the speedometer dial, you can change the tach to a speedo in the gauge settings.
 
The first few weeks that I had it, I spent a ton of time customizing it and then randomly it would totally reset and I would do it all over again - not sure what I did differently, but eventually it "took" and now I don't want to touch it and get back into some weird reset mode again.

(similarly when I first got it, CarPlay would regularly reset and I would have to reconfigure and around the same time it "took" - no idea why or what changed - wasn't a dealer trip or anything, it was like it passed some break in period and decided I was allowed to stay)

It'll slowly creep up. I'm approaching 5000 miles, averaging 21-22 mpg with a range of about 320 now. About 30 miles more than what I was getting 3 months ago. The range will adjust to your driving habits.

I suspect these settings are tied to my driver profile, which is somehow tied to the Toyota app on my phone. The car and the app may have had some issues syncing when the car was new, causing my settings not to be properly saved online to my profile. So the next time I started the car, it loaded the old settings from my online profile. It's a stupid setup, especially considering that, to set up a second driver profile for my wife, she will have to share my login in her Toyota app. I know this because we had a Highlander before this and I wasted a lot of time trying to get her app to work.

I think I read somewhere that each key has it's own profile. That means that unlocking car with different key, the seats will move to different position and probably also different cluster settings.
