Inaccurate speedometer

So you don't have the app /program that does it by yourself? You need your dealer...That is not what I was referring to. Changing the speedo gear was a thing also and actually quite easy. Most of my background with this was sports cars, not off roaders. I am more into speed than dirt. Totally different world.I was specifically referring to a car that you could reprogram within itself. So my statement stands 100% correct. No vehicle I know of has the ability to let trhe OWNER calibrate the speedo with in its onboard programming...on his or her own. Hope that was clear enough.
It is obvious a lack of clarity exists. I saw so many posts with completely irrelevant comparisons of wheel diameter, section width and aspect ratio grossly MIS compared, I threw that out there. Aspect ratio and section width have zero to do with speedo calibration. Only 1 number matters....OD.

I think you aren’t reading the comments or you don’t understand modern cars. To sum it up for you….I can literally adjust my own Speedo on a jeep wrangler using an app on my phone. You put in a parameter based on the tire size and it adjusts and calibrates the speedometer. I feel like you are the type of person who can’t be wrong. So you do you.

Back to the topic at hand. It sucks that the MPH is off on my cruiser and it would be nice if it got fixed.

Literally everyone knows the why, that isn’t a sign of superior position. Why don’t you go ahead and complain about what you want to complain about (and you do) while ignoring the stuff that doesn’t matter to you (what most of us below your gaze try to do).

Actually, what I will do is apologize because I reread my 1st post in this thread and it indeed came out far worse than intended. Shi!!y week at work......I tend to vent online.....original post was supposed to be as simple as a 2mph error is easy to live with. Been doing it for years on many vehicles. 1-2mph is pretty common.
You gotta admit, when someone thinks tire pressure affects the speedo in any realistic way, that is ???????????? at best. And don't forget its the wheel size..........It is only n1 thing....THE OD

We can all do better, but I don't believe some realize that they are an arse (not directed at you)........... I'd like to think this forum is a place where differences of opinions could be discussed without digressing into the pitiful crap like a few other forums have become.

It amazes me how certain people have read an article on a subject and truly believe that they are now the subject matter expert and often throw in qualifiers about "for the last 50 years ...... I did, I was, and I know", while the content they attempt to convey has little to do with addressing what was requested but rather ....... just argue to argue.

Thought I would provide an update......

The one day my WAZE gps speed matched my speedometer was just a one day occurrence. The next day it was off 1 mph in town and 2 mph on the highway like it used to be off. I put an Escort radar detector in my car for an upcoming trip. The Escort radar has GPS speed built into it. The speed on the Escort matches my LC's speedometer perfectly. I guess any of the three can be off but at this point I would say that the WAZE gps speed is the one that isn't accurate. I might try Apple Maps and see how that speed compares with the LC's speedometer. I guess it could be a wear gps signal on my iPhone as well. When driving I always keep my phone laying in the position right in front of the cup holders. I don't have wireless charging on mine so I bought a simple wireless charger with MagSafe on Amazon and used a short USB cable to connect it to the USB port right above it. Works great but I can see where it could interfere with the satellites in the sky since it is kind of tucked under the dash so to speak.

The speedo on my 1958 consistently read 2mph faster creeping to 3 in the 70+ range. Just fitted flat black Tacoma TRD rims with 265/70 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tyres and it now reads accurately.

Interesting. I’m getting +1 mph indicated per 30 mph actual. On 265/70 18 Grapplers

Toyota may tout it as a safety margin, but they are not dumb, possibly thinking the consumer is...

I have a suspicion that Toyota ran with the smaller tires on the 1958 because it inflates the mpg calculated by the car's computer. Maybe even misleads regulators. Probably no need to explain, but just in case some readers don't agree, consider the following: if the car is sensing 60 mph, but in fact you are only going 55 mph. Then in one hour you really only went 55 miles and the fuel consumed (mpg) would be relative to the actual distance traveled, i.e., the 55 miles. The car's computer on the other hand would be showing you a mpg calculation based erroneously on the 60 miles that it thought it traveled. The result: mpg real is less than car calculated mpg. That's a really big deal in my book. Now that I am running 275/70r18s the problem is gone.
