Highway driving discussion

On the downside, there are some weird things about the passenger side though like the lack of a nearby volume control and the fact that it’s almost impossible to see anything on the dash.
I consider these benefits! This way my wife can't control the stereo and also she can't see how fast I'm going.

For me, the lane trace assist is a bit of a toy. It does work - surprisingly well in fact - but there are so few situations where I can chill for any extended period of time and let the car do the driving. Even on long highway trips I find myself passing semis where it’s easier to self-steer. So if that feature were to disappear from the truck I would not lose any sleep.

Traffic jam assist on the other hand is amazing. I have the honor of sitting in I-70 ski traffic all the time and I use it. Last year on one trip it took me 2 hours to get from Silverthorne to the entrance of the Eisenhower tunnel eastbound, which is 11 miles. If you drive it at the wrong time of day it’s a shitshow, and in this case there was weather and an accident. The traffic jam assist worked a charm: I barely touched the wheel or pedals the whole time. Love it.
I'm ambivalent about the lane assist in general but I have a 'friend' that uses the lane assist on those rare occasions where this 'friend' has to look at their phone for something.

I'm also a big a fan on the traffic jam assist. Love not having to touch pedals or steering wheel when in stop-and-go traffic on the interstate. Relieves a lot of stress and cramping of the leg.

I use adaptive cruise all the time. It's awesome the vast majority of the time. I hate how hard it brakes when someone jumps into your lane, though. When that happens, I usually cancel it and then reestablish after a minute.

I don't like the lane tracing. It seems to fail a lot and can be jerky. My 2019 Ford Ranger had lane keeping, and it did a much better job.

Just drove from N Florida to the UP and back last week, so I got lots of recent highway time. Love this thing.

That monitoring camera is a pain in the arse! Even when I was looking forward it was yelling at me, opening a soda bottle, yelling at me, adjust my glasses in the bright sun, yelling at me............. that camera needs to die a quick death!
That was the first thing I turned off. I noticed it during the test drive and said that’s being disable at the next stoplight.

Same here!

I love it as well. My biggest problem with the adaptive cruise is that I'll be tooling along in the right lane and suddenly realize that i'm doing 60 (in a 70MPH zone) because the adaptive cruise was so smooth in slowing down to match the speed of the other guy in the right lane that I didn't realize it.

I’m looking for feedback on how well the LC handles highway driving. All models come with Adaptive Cruise and Lane Trace Assist, but in particular I wonder how well those work to make for a comfortable ride and reduced fatigue. Also, how is the cabin noise with the stock tires? No dealerships will let me test ride a LC on the highway so this is impossible for me to learn in a test drive.

My wife and I like to do a 2000 mile road trip a couple times a year. Day one we typically travel 1000 miles in about 16 hours of driving. (We switch back and forth as driver so we don’t tire). Our current road trip vehicle is a 2017 Pacifica. The Pacifica has Lane Edge Warning (where it gently nudges you back into the lane if you’re close to the line) and adaptive cruise control which both go a long way to make a comfortable ride. The cabin is fairly quiet, but you do get noise from the tires on the road.

The features I’m most excited about in the LC is the Lane Trace Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. Has anyone driven long highway miles in a vehicle with Lane Trace vs Lane Edge Warning?
All depends on your point of reference. Better than wrangler and bronco . But that’s about it

My experience exactly!

I have been enjoying the LC on the highway. Road noise on Nitto Ridge Grapplers not bad.

My biggest complaint with the ACC is that after about 12 seconds, a prompt with dinging lets you know to make sure your hands are on the wheel. Kind of annoying on a long highway drive with straight roads. Many times I will have my hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and it will still put up the warning, dinging and cuts out the audio. I hate when my car micromanages me🤷‍♂️. I've considered trying a steering wheel weight for long trips for this reason to see if it helps reduce the frequency of the prompts and the need to "jerk" the wheel every 12 seconds.

Just turn off the "Driver Monitor Camera".

Sterring wheel "arrow" buttons
"Vehicle Settings" - Push and Hold “OK” to adjust
"DMC" (Driver Monitor Camera) Recording - (On or Off)

I've attached a cheat sheet for the abbreviations and settings that I put together and find very helpful............ and available dash layout options. (I don't know if all layout options are available on the 1958)
