I really like the cargo cover that came with my Venza, and was looking for something similar for my new LC. Unless I missed something, Toyota does not seem to offer this part as an accessory in the US. So I ordered one from Japan which is marketed for the J250. It arrived today, and looks to be exactly what I want. Except for one small problem. The mounting bar appears to be too wide. I sat on the floor in the cargo area and compressed both sliding end caps on the aluminum bar, and it just doesn't fit. An eyeball measurement looks to be a little under an inch of excessive length.

There are definitely a couple of properly shaped receptacles on the side panels that are an exact match for the bar ends. I know I'm compressing the bar ends as much as possible. The side panels don't have enough give to get it in there under reasonable tension. Which leads me to a couple of possibilities.

1) I'm screwed. Toyota doesn't sell this part in the US for a reason. The US LC and the J250 have differences, and I just found one the hard way.

2) I did notice that the receiving receptacles are rather shallow. Before I even attempted to install the bar, I wondered how well the cover would stay in place based on the shallow depth of the receptacles, and the relatively light amount of force required to compress the bar ends. I didn't have the greatest light, and a quick finger probing of a receptacle didn't detect any motion that I'd associate with a plastic filler plate. Is it possible that there's a filler inserted into the receptacles that has to be removed? Increasting the depth of the receptacles might allow the bar to go in, and would certainly hold it in place better if this were the case. Sometime's the best explanation of a problem contains clues to solving it.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.*

* As long as they don't involve China or Amazon.

Oops. Just found my answer in another thread. "I bought the Toyota (well, the box is Lexus) cargo cover, and I couldn’t remember how to get those two plastic cover pieces off where the cargo cover slots into. A dental scaler pic tool popped them off in no time at all."

My Google-Fu is weak.
