Heat air blower power

Not to hijack this thread, but does the blower when using heat sound loud, even at medium to low speed?

If set to windshield and feet, not very loud even all the way up. However, push the "Front" button and it's quite loud - which is good for defrosting the windshield. Reminds me of my JLU in that respect...that thing had the heat of the sun blowing at the windshield at eleventy twelve MPH. Need to make some jerky? Throw it on the dash and enjoy a snack in 20 minutes

Adding to this thread since I've experienced a similar issue but there's no setting to fix it -- even with the S-flow (direct air flow to occupied seats) setting off. Air will barely flow (similar to what you'd expect if the fan setting was set on lowest speed) out of the front vents on the highest fan speed setting when it's set to warm air temps. But if I change the temperature past 60 to "Lo" then the air blower motor will ramp up the fan speed much stronger. It may be a air flow baffle issue but it's at the dealer currently to see if they can get to the bottom of it.

It also seems that the manual control of temps doesn't change the air temperature. From 60 to Hi the air temp blowing out of the vents is warm - probably around 85. Just noticed this taking it to the dealer.

Adding some more context with a video of what mine is doing. Helps show the vast difference between blower speeds by simply changing temperature up and down. Blower fan speed on highest setting for whole thing. Tissue is taped to driver left vent to visualize the air speed.

I see the same on my 1958. I noticed that the LO settings seems to be associated with stronger air flow in general - regardless of the direction of the airflow. The moment I bump one level up from LO and go to 15C (60F) or above, the airflow will continue being strong for 2-3s and then drop significantly as in your video.

What bothers me more though is the significantly higher noise when blowing down towards the feet that you and Meteor have noticed. I started a separate thread about that because these are worth discussing as two separate issues (even they turn out to be root caused to the same problem).

Update. After some messing around with controls it seems when I turn OFF the 'direct airflow only to the front' using the infotainment screen it increases the front vent flow to a normal level. This is counterintuitive and may be a programming bug but a least I know the culprit.

Been to the dealer about this fan speed issue and was told Toyota is well aware of it and they've had complaints from Tundra owners as well. It was escalated to Toyota engineering & the word back is that it is operating within specification and no changes are planned. I'm annoyed that they know customers are unhappy but won't do anything. To me it seems like a software fix that could easily be addressed.

Concerning deicer - not full area of the windshield has the heating elements. Which is really strange. It melts ice perfectly but still keeps some icy areas on the left and right sides.

Do American LCs have the same issue?

They do but only where the wipers rest, which is not the best IMO. I've owned 90's Land Rovers with full windshield heating elements that worked x10 better.

I have this same problem with my US LC250 1958 model. It made for some hazardous travel a few days ago during a freezing rain storm. I kept tweaking with the heat settings to put more fan speed on the windshield and turned up temp all the way. Still didnt help. If there is a heating element in the front windshield, I have yet to figure out how to turn it on.
