Hearing a rattle noise at low gear acceleration.

Took mine to local dealer who reproduced the rattling noise after keeping it overnight. They compared it to the same model on their lot which also made the noise. Because of this, they deemed it "normal".

I was given a tip that their service techs are aware of this noise and said it happens on about half of the LC 250s. But they aren't allowed to disclose the cause. Very disappointing.

This is same story we have received as well. You can request FTS look at the vehicle as well. FTS is the internal team at Toyota. We have heard this story since August 2024. Remember Toyota is liable if there is a manufacturing defect from the factory. I believe they working on how to minimize this behind the scenes. It is not looking good. I would document everything.

I finally got some info on this after repeatedly mentioning the noise to SF Toyota - they are now recommending an engine swap o_O - saying there is an issue with the short block. They logged an issue with Toyota directly long ago. No charge, but obviously concerning + disappointing. 2024 1st Edition, otherwise I might push for / request a full vehicle swap.

I really feel like if there were an internal issue within the block making this much audible noise, we would have seen a 250 blow up by now.

We were told the same thing and I pushed more. I was told there was a redesign to the main bearings. NOT GOOD.

We have also seen very high amounts of metal in the oil via blackstone analysis. The metal PPM has been increasing over the first 4 oil changes and 10k miles.

As more information comes out we will see. Toyota has done everything in their power to limit exposure.

With a short block replacement, there are still many parts transferred that may have been exposed to high metal oil. This is why the Tundra engines were recalled with long blocks.

We are currently looking at all options. I would look at the lemon laws in your state and document everything. I will continue to update this thread as we find out more. At the end of the day Toyota released these to the public with an issue. I don't know the exact issue or cause and Toyota may never release this. What I do know is... if Toyota is offering a full engine swap there is a problem. We have seen reports of this on the 2025 models as well.

I have no interest in having a brand new vehicle being torn apart to replace the engine.

Toyota is responsible for any manufacturing defects.

This sickens me. More worry beads..

I read the V35A got a bearing redesign. I hope who ever you spoke with meant that engine and not the T24A.
I would love to know what is causing this interesting sound.

As these get replaced the core will be sent back to Toyota engineering. We will be at the mercy of Toyota of what they release.

Thankfully these forums exists and most US states have strong lemon laws. I think more information will come out... but remember Toyota is looking out for Toyota. I wish I had better news and I knew the risk buying a first year vehicle. I actually really like the entire platform and waited over 6 months to get mine. I am not going to spectate on the root cause, but coming from an engineering background and having rebuilt many engines from the ground up it is not good. It will be interesting to see if the 4runner has the same issue. I would like to note Toyota was aware of this issue from at least August 2024 and their response was "normal characteristic". I truly believe this was just a delay tactic while they decided what to do behind the scenes. The response from Toyota corporate, Field technical services, and the dealerships has truly been an eye opener, and I never expected it from a brand that is built on quality and longevity.

My Blackstone report was disappointing as well. My aluminum PPM was high which my indicates more bearing wear then I would like to see, Ill be following up with another sample in a few months. Attached report for reference.

Can you share videos of the rattling and what it sounds like from the passenger seat?

Mine sounds like there's a fan fluttering/rattling from inside the glovebox. Took it into Toyota, they said the intake is loose and knocks - taped it up and it seems to be a little better....?

If it helps, I have 16k miles on my LC with zero SERIOUS issues except this ratting...

the drivers, front rubber panel flew off randomly when I was on the freeway. The other one seems loose, does anyone know the part #?

I would think the dealer would replace the missing part for you under warranty. It's not exactly a wear part. Thanks for posting.

Here are the best videos. It is difficult to record, but you will know if you have it. Generally, this will happen when the engine is under load/driving and not in neutral/park.

I took it in, they said its backordered and will LMK when its back in stock

The first video sounds like its a loose plate underneath the vehicle as highlighted in an earlier post on this thread. The second video sounds different, sounds like my LC.

Dealership said mine is a loose intake box thats knoxing around and not sealed properly. They added insulation, doesn't seem to have fully resolved the issue - only made the turbo sounds more noticeable. Anyone figure out what the second video's noise is from? A loose fan somewhere maybe?

Both videos are the same issue/sound from different perspectives. We don't know exactly what the noise is. Toyota is keeping this internal and has not released anything publicly. (that I know of)

This is what we know -
1. Toyota is offering a full engine short block replacement.
2. We have seen very high levels of aluminum in the oil. (after the initial break in period)
3. There has been a redesign to the main bearings .

I haven’t seen anything about the short block replacement or bearings being redesigned except from you here. Can you provide some backup for those statements?
