Happy birthday Toyota Land Cruiser, launched on August 1st 1951.

Test drove a brand-new 40-Series in the mid-60's, but sadly did not purchase. And one heck of a test drive, over some difficult terrain. Purchased a new 80-Series, and loved it, owned for many years, albeit not a highway cruiser. Now to have the new model to be announced in a few hours. PLEASE Toyota, don't muff it, make it a good machine!

My personal favorite among the older designs is the 1960s model. I remember a neighbor of mine who owned a red one - it was a vehicle I always admired.

Did it use the inline 6 that even our 1990 had? Of course the 1990 variant was modernized with EFI, etc, but still a copy of the ancient and super-reliable Chevy 235. No timing chains to wear/fail on that engine, but gears.
