Spotted a new one today on walk into work.

Pass by anywhere from 10-15 Land Cruisers each day and 2-3 250 series.

Pretty crazy to me to see 35” Toyo MT installed over here in Japan though.

Will try and get pictures of some of nicer ones if I get chance.

Yes! Would love to see and hear your observations on the Japanese variant of the Land Cruiser.

Also, if you could bootleg a suitcase or so of tpms sensors when you head back to the states. That’d be great. They can’t possibly be charging $90 a pop over there, can they?

Car parts are typically more expensive over here and then you have to worry about import duties and shipping costs when shipping back.

Back in my Volvo days I shipped and imported a set of wheels for a Volvo aftermarket vendor back to the US, wheels were 3K and between shipping and import duties that added another 1.5K and that was 13 years ago now! 4.5k to have an exclusive set of wheels.

Here’s another one from today:

2000ish 90 series Prado?

Also saw a New Tacoma TRD pro with 35” tires and a Jeep with the same and over 2” of poke not quite sure how that is getting registered here or he’s swapping tires for inspection and risking it daily in between.

Definitely been a huge uptick in off-road setup vehicles since I last lived here in 2012. Kinda impractical for Japans narrow roads and tight parking and practically nowhere to put it to use. Also saw a badass old school Corolla and Datsun 510 today but they were driving so no pics as well as another 250 and a 200 series and what I assume was a Suzuki samurai or something (it’s new but looks retro square body ). All this is just a short 15 minute walk into work from my hotel. The wagons and vans here are pretty cool as well, I’d take quite a few of them if they were sold in the US as well as some of Kei cars.

What little time I spent over there... was always struck by how many new cars on the road, and how few older cars. The few really old/vintage cars were only driven by the rich/yakuza/etc. It was only when my friend who lived there explained to me that the registration fees only go up as the cars get older. I can have a 20 year old beater that costs nothing to keep here in the states, there it'd cost you a small fortune to own. Interesting economic policy...

It's amazing to me these are 35's. They do not look that large. This truck sure handles larger tires well.

That is mainly driven based on emissions, efficiency and to keep from having broken down cars on the road and contributing to more gridlock.

I never saw a disabled vehicle here in my six years living here or any of my visits for the past 23 years not even so much as a flat tire or blowout. Never seen oil on the road or a car overheating anywhere either.
