Electric running boards

I'm a simple man I want a TDI.
If only my likely commute were all 4 lane divided highway I could go for a TDI.

It will be 109 miles or so, and only about 30 miles is divided highway. The rest is two lane rural highways.

To make things tolerable I need a car that can:

1.) Achieve 30 MPG if I’m driving like a sane person.

2.) Has AWD for unexpected winter weather (I’ll take the LC when I know the weather is going to suck) so I can have a chance to get home more often than not.

3.) Isn’t a complete penalty box to spend time in.

4.) Has enough power to easily pass 2-3 cars/trucks/RV’s at a time on two lane areas when passing opportunities open up. Our beloved 2015 Chevrolet SS made short work of this sort of thing quickly and safely performing passes, and slowing back down.

5.) Big powerful brakes to reign in speed after #4.

Oof, those forums are rough. Mud did not seem welcoming of the new Land Cruiser at all when I hit the forums late last year researching prior to my purchase. So glad I found this place with all its fuel types and tire pressure. Anyone know when windshields will be available???????????

VW Vortex is just kidz with giant turbos wondering if the warranty is now voided. I miss my Golf R but not that forum.

I am also an alumni of Vortex. I had two different Tiguans, the first of which was my reason for joining. I pop in now and then to keep a finger somewhat on the pulse, but I don't miss those two VWs. Both were cursed- every three months, something would self destruct all by itself, and VW wouldn't want to fix it under warranty.

Cool. Keep us posted and also if you can please ask that dealer what other components/parts they needed to order and install to make it work on the LC250 .

I am still in the researching phase of how to make those GX 550 or new 4Runner ones work on the LC250 and the parts needed.
Will do

Having owned them, I disliike power running boards and turn them off when a vehicle has them. Water mud, snow, salt, sand, etc continually foul them to the point where they often don't work for long. Maybe they are ok for a pavement cruiser driven only in a warm, dry climate?
Yeah anywhere that gets snow make

Prius prime would probably fit that unless you don’t like the styling.

Seriously, best of luck............ there are a couple of after-market brands that sort of fit the LC and the GX 550 electric running boards are 6k per side plus the harness, switch and module (if I remember correctly).
Hope it works out. Wife wanted it, if dealer doesn't come through, I'll be in the clear, lol.

Not enough power to pull off passing opportunities on the roads I’ll be driving. When you get an opening you need to be able to get up to speed for a pass right f’ing now.

300hp minimum in a car or you might be stuck behind a camper for miles.

RAV4 prime maybe.

Nope.

I want something fun. A Golf R is legitimately quick. I watched a head to head review against the GR Corolla and the Golf R is an animal.

Made more power at the wheels on a dyno than VW claims at the crank. So it’s really about a 380-400hp vehicle given driveline losses.

Update on electric running boards: Dealer called me this afternoon, the only Toyota electric running boards are for the Prado and will not fit the American LC. There are no substitutes that he would recommend. Overall, not a a bad experience, they called me back and volunteered to refund me the value of the boards ($1800).

Wow - I'm surprised - getting money back from a dealer after the deal has closed is usually like pulling teeth. Good to hear they are treating you right.

Enough for a new set of wheels!

So, are you selling your Land Cruiser?

What dealer?

No of course not.

This would be an additional vehicle. My wife typically daily drives the Land Cruiser. I daily an old 2007 Toyota Tubdra, which is fine for my 48 mile round trip to and from work every 24-36 hours. Not going to cut it when the round trip is 218 miles every 48-50 hours and it’s old, has almost 170K on it, and gets 15 MPG the way I drive it running 70-75 mph.

Umm...I know it doesn't need to be stated, but this "American" LC is a Prado. I'm curious if there is actually something different from the US model vs. ROW, or the if the dealership is just giving you an excuse. At least they are refunding you the money!

I managed to gather this info. Before you take your refund from your dealer, ask your dealer if any of these can be fitted to the LC250(PRADO).

*You might need some wiring harness and connectors too which I don't know of and trying to find out
  • Items highlighted in red might not be needed (maybe just Computer Multiplex, Network Door or maybe not needed)
  • In green I have also included the Kick Sensor for the opening/closing the tailgate with Kick, not sure what else will be needed for that. I know for a fact the LC250 in some countries like the Philippines comes with the Kick Sensor in the tailgate.
