DV8 Front Bumper dropping soon!

Nice!! I noticed your bumper doesn't have the DV8 metal logo blocking the light bar, is that something you did or did it come like that?
post #50 he stated:
"You may notice on attached photos that I “deleted” (saw off) the dv8 logo at the light bar. I am the design guy who focus on the design details and functions so that logo bothers me ;)"

Same! I really like that bumper but the first thing I thought of when I saw it was "I'm cutting that logo off"

hey DV8 designers- & @ryroam250 hear that? give us a logo delete option!

Mission completed ;) DIY destructed and constructed/installed the front bumper + integrated/hidden winch + light bar. It just looks OEM. I am happy with its “perfection” 😜 😜 😜

Hey after you saw'd that off, did you re-spray or powder coat it?

Also: with the winch nice and hidden in the DV8 Bumper: how do you toggle the release to put it in free spool? how do you plug in the winch controller? do you have to pop the hood to do that? thx!

Yes. Just Spay painted that areas only (taped and cover other areas)

The cut holes at 2 sides designed (as I belive) to put your hand through to operate the lever (free spool) and to plug in/ out the controllers ( wire and wireless). Smart design!
It is how I operate the winch.

Cool! Thx!

I'm pretty sold on this bumper setup..

Good luck, bro
After researched and valued all types of front bumper + winch + light bar, for “MY” taste and use, this is the best:
• minimum weight
• keep the OEM beautiful front end looks of LC250
• no “crazy” cuts
• winch is hidden. Keep friendly/luxury look while in town, but fully function/rescue while in trail hard situations

Oh no…am I doing marketing for DV8 ?! Hahah…DV8 should pay me 😜 😜

Nope. I couldn’t find anyone willing to tackle the wiring . They were all afraid of warrant voiding if anything went wrong . I have not been able to find a support department by Toyota to email or call to ask about wiring a winch

Looks great @t3lcfe !
So how hard was it to do the required cutting with sufficient precision to end up with an aesthetically pleasing result? Did the bumper come with some kind of cutting template? I'm not exactly neurosurgeon material in my freehand steadiness so wondering how to accomplish this without ending up with wavy lines or other OCD triggering imperfections...
Also, what LED bar and winch did you go with? Did you buy the DV8 branded ones or something else?
Given the low placement of the winch are there any concerns with frying it on water crossings? DV8 does not seem to provide any information on the water resistance or lack thereof of their winch...

1/ Cutting: started with knife blade (not easy for straight line because of polymer)….ended up with small / fine hand saw and cleaned up with sharp utility knife+metal ruler (final trim 1/8” from the edge. No template. Just go with the profile of OEM bumper per instruction). Trust your hand skill ;)
NOTE: per my engineering perspective, I didn’t follow 100% their instruction to cut the second “layer” deep inside of the front layer. I want all 2 layers remain (on top each other) and they will provide stronger support and sturdier. I finally drilled a hole each side and use push pins to hold them together. Small saw blade helped me to cut through both layers at same time.

2/ LED bar: Baja Design Amber

3/ winch: DV8 12,000 lbs. I want it perfectly fit to their bumper and space in LC. Yes, it fits right in ;)
You can choose some other brands but ensure going with their recomended size.
It will be wet if submerged in the water or car wash (did not check in my recent car wash to see how wet it was…Hmm I may find the way to temporary cover it when doing pressured water washing) and recommend to dry them out after water crossing or mud-dipping off-road trips

Good luck ;)
Happy LC

So, if the weight of the bumper is 60lbs per this thread and a 12K winch weighs roughly 70lbs. That means I would be permanently adding about 130lbs to the front of the car. I'm new at this so I wonder if that is enough weight that, assuming I don't want to lift the truck but simply keep its original ride height and handling characteristics, that I know need to worry about swapping the front springs. What say you experts? Can this be added without triggering needed changes to the front suspension? Thanks in advance.

I can’t speak for stock suspension, but with my Kings, DV8 bumper and a Smittybilt 12k winch (76 Lbs) the sag was not even measurable.

I was concerned with the low placement as well, so decided to get the Smittybilt X20 12k which is IP68 rated. It required a little modification to the fairlead bolts because the winch body is fatter it seems. The mounting holes lined up great but had to take a little off the DV8 pocket fairlead bolts.

Dv8 Centric steel bumper: 65 lbs
Dv8 winch 12k lbs: 55 lbs
Total 120lbs
Remove OEM crash bar (aluminum) around 40 lbs
So total 80 lbs weight added to front end.

As cmpugh7 (Chris) say…I felt its weight on day 1…and “disappeared” on days after ;) actually all is great with stock suspension.

I'm being patient and waiting to see what comes out. I'm not going to add a bunch of weight to the nose without addressing the sag and such. I also do not want to otherwise lift the truck or change from stock ride height.

That being said, people are starting to come out with springs to add a bit of lift, 1.5" for example, and stiffness, specifically for supporting the weight of bumpers/winches.

One I came across last night is "All Dogs Offroad." If found a post they made a week or so ago on Reddit where they fitted their springs to a customer's vehicle, and on their Facebook. These springs aren't on their website yet but I'm keeping an eye out.

This will be the route I go if/when I add a bumper/winch.

I'm still trying to decide if I actually need a winch but living here in middle TN, it looks like most offroading around here requires being able to get through/up muddy trails so I think it's probably going to be necessary.

I'm in the same situation. I have the DV8 winch bumper still in the box and I'm holding off until I find the suspension setup that works for me. Might not even do a winch as the last winch I had was only used to help others out. Not saying it wouldn't be needed but I never got into a situation that required it for my vehicle to be recovered. Some people might say I'm not off roading enough but I've always been more inclined to pick the best, drama free line when on trails.

There's that too! 25 years ago, I use to dive bomb into the deepest mud. Now, no thanks! I probably don't actually NEED a winch, just be more thoughtful about my line and, if necessary, turn around.
