Doors won't lock half the time using the buttons on the door handles. Anyone else?

We always use the door handle lock buttons on the LC250 handles when we get out. About half the time, the mirrors will start to swing in, then I get a long beep sound and the mirrors swing back out and the doors don't lock. Anyone know what could be causing this? I just know if we take it to a dealership, it's going to work perfectly while we're there and they won't even try anything to fix it.

Also, we had the dealership change the functionality of the close and lock button on the inside of the rear hatch (for some dumb reason it's not an option to change it ourselves). It's supposed to use a sensor to know when you've walked off before closing the hatch. Very useful when you need to pick up something big with both hands. But ours actually functions that way like 1% of the time. It mostly just beeps a bunch and does nothing when we use it.

I'm guessing a sensor somewhere is faulty and it thinks a door is still open or something, causing both problems to occur. Anyone dealt with anything similar?

Welcome to the Jungle!

IMO, If you are trying to use the close then lock and a passenger door is open, it'll just beep at you.

If the rear glass has popped/unlocked, still in the down position but not secured, it'll just beep at you.

I have experienced both these scenarios.

FYI there's no sensor in the rear hatch that senses you have walked off etc........ It's a close then lock, while you walk away.

If the hatch and doors are closed and does what you describe, the vehicle thinks there is a key/fob/transmitter within the interior of the vehicle or is receiving a signal from a transmitter (like a fob button being pressed in a pants pocket) or your fingers have touched the touch sensor est....... I've experienced all three scenarios.......

In the owner's manual (page 140 for me), it says that you can make a change that changes the functionality of the second button on the hatch, so that it closes and locks after you walk away, up to 30 seconds. We've successfully used it a few times, but it usually doesn't work. It's awesome to hit the button, pick up a heavy box from the hatch, and walk away, and the door will wait until you're out of the way to close. The feature is called 'Close and Lock (Walk Away).

The book also says that the change can only be made by a dealership. We had them make the change for us,and now the button doesn't really work for either option. But I think it's because of whatever problem the car is having locking the doors.

Probably hundreds of times at this point, all doors have been closed securely, and the remote will lock the doors, but the button on the door handle does what I described above. There are no keys in the car, nothing on the rear seat, etc. I suspect that if we figure out why the car is rejecting locking the doors with the button on the handle, the same fix will fix the close and lock (walk away) function.

The only way I've been able to get the mirrors to fold in is to use the key fob. Irritating. IMO the mirrors should fold in when the doors are closed whether they are locked or not.

Mine fold in when I use the button on the door handle... When it works. Must be a setting?

I use the "Close and Lock" on an almost daily basis .........hopefully you'll get it sorted out.

I think you are referring to using touch sensor on handle - so touch handle with fob on your person, and it locks as well as mirrors fold in. I use this feature all the time.
To me, it sounds like you are holding onto the handle too long. I have had this happen a few times. It starts to lock but then reverses because with hand still on handle, it thinks you want to unlock.
Try touching for a second and remove your hand and hopefully this simple fix will help.

Does it happen even when you haven't left your phone in the car?

Yes it does. My phone stays in my front pant pocket. And sometimes after exiting the vehicle and trying to lock, it starts a beep as if it thinks the phone is still in the car. Haven't really figured out why, but sometimes retrying works. Otherwise the lock function on the the app always works

Mine works fine. However, sometimes wish the touch sensors were on the rear door handles as well. Interestingly, the rear cargo hatch window unlocks by itself automatically when opening it.

The long beep could be if you have left a second key in the truck.
