One of the few minor annoyances I noticed on the new Land Cruiser 250 was that Toyota still opted for a manual prop rod to hold up the hood. For a rig at this price point and capability, having to fumble with a manual rod every time you check the oil, top off washer fluid, or do an under-hood inspection just felt a bit outdated.

I decided to clean up the engine bay and upgrade to a set of hydraulic gas struts from NINTHX, and honestly, it’s one of those small 10-minute mods that makes a huge difference in daily quality of life.

Quick Overview & Impressions:

  • No-Drill Installation: Uses existing factory mounting points on the LC250 chassis/hood. Took me under 15 minutes with simple hand tools.
  • Smooth Lifting: Holds the hood securely at full height and opens smoothly with minimal force.
  • Clean Engine Bay: Clears up space and eliminates the clutter of the factory rod.
If anyone else is looking to replace their prop rod, I grabbed mine here:

Anyone else running gas struts on their 250 yet? Curious if you went with a similar setup or found any other cool under-hood mods!
