Delivered our daughter to college at Creighton last weekend, and in the process experienced what has to be among the worst 8 hour road trips you can take in the USA. It’s I-76 northeast out of Denver to I-80 in western Nebraska and then all the way to Omaha. Because of the route they used for I-80 you really don’t even go through any towns. It’s long, straight, and flat the entire way. Absolutely nothing to see.

Omaha itself is underrated. Nice downtown, plenty of great restaurants, some quaint neighborhoods, very inexpensive. You could eat off of the floor in the buildings at Creighton.

The primary entertainment on this trip are the semis, there are six of those for every passenger vehicle. So if you thought it would be a good way to test your lane tracing, it sort of isn’t because you are constantly passing. Which the truck will do with lane tracing, but I found it to be easier to just steer on my own.

I averaged about 19-20 MPG there and back on stock Dunlops at about 35PSI. Not bad, maybe a couple MPG better than my Tahoe would have been.

Truck was quiet enough. It won’t be winning any awards for that, but I remember my 2004 Explorer being louder. Not a complaint.

Seats were comfortable. Back end swallowed up all the dorm room accoutrements, no problem. My upgraded stereo sounded great, but given the company it was mostly Taylor Swift.

I think in the future, funds permitting, I will fly one direction and rent/drive the other direction to move materials to and from Omaha. It really is not an enjoyable drive. But the Land Cruiser did great.
