20-22.5 is really good tho. I get 17 on a good day and that’s driving very conservatively. Maybe mine is broken haha
Debating new tires and can’t decide. 285/75/17 Firestone destination XT’s or 34x10.5 Toyo at3?

Where I live and mostly drive the highest posted speed on the one hwy is 50 mph. Most of the roads are 30 mph or less. So, I don't move very fast. lol
Any Firestone, except for tractor tires, if not the worst one of the top very worst tires you could ever purchase purchase.
Even the junk OEM tires were better than any low grade Firestone is.

So local to local.
You will never do better than any of the Michelin tires, you can go from performance to mild off road and hard core ice and snow. You need to prioritize and focus on the primary or worst case use of the vehicle.
A summer set and winter set is another great option like many of us do that cant store the second set of mounted rims and tires.
Any of the LTX series are excellent.
The snow and ice tire they make is top rate.
Rotate x4 tires about every 5k and you are all set.
If you want more hard core off road stuff, i use the Goodrich and Goodyear big knobby stuff for dedicated use.
Not recommended for every day use.
I am not joking about the Friestone stuff, the worst.
When i was doing tire testing on hot tarmac est 140deg F, the Firestones fraged first with the Coopers, the two worst tires ever.
Pirellis are also top rate, take your pick, Michelin owns Pirelli.

I got the Toyo at3 34x10.5’s mounted yesterday on my rrw 17x8 +18’s. Too early to tell but initial short impressions and over analysis is the ride is def a little more harsh and acceleration took a bit of a hit as I added about 12lbs per corner. Truck does coast better tho on the skinnies. And steering feels tighter. Will test it more tomorrow on a small road trip.

Michelin does not own Pirelli. LTX tires failed on me and michelin would not help because they were 4 years old even though they only had 5k miles on them. My pilots have been awesome i must say.

After an hour road trip the other day, I have some more short initial impressions. Just like before, acceleration from a stop seems a little less but that's to be expected with the additional weight. It's not too bad tho. Fuel economy on the freeway was surprisingly good. About 22mpg with my full DV8 roof rack. Granted there was mild flowing traffic most of the way and speed was capped around 55-60mph for majority of the trip there. On the way back at 65-70 mpg it dropped to about 19.5-20 mpg. The truck coasts a little better on these verses the 285/70/17's. Pretty amazing that despite being 12lbs heavier per tire, and almost an inch bigger in diameter, that it gets better fuel economy on the highway, and similar in the city (maybe slightly less, need more testing)
Steering seems a little stiffer, but at times handling feels a little less stable at higher speeds. Maybe because of the skinnier tread, or the stiffer rubber. I'm not sure yet. Maybe I need to play with the PSI. I'm currently at 36 PSI cold.
Looks wise, I like how these fill the fender well a bit more than the 285's. They do look skinny tho, which I'm not quite use to, but it doesn't bother me.
So far so good, looking forward to getting them on some dirt. Might not be until winter and the holidays pass tho unfortunately. Camping is hard in the cold with a baby. Happy holidays everyone!

Regarding PSI, when I first put the 34X10.5s on, I was running them at 35 cold. I bumped them up to 40 a few days ago and I've seen a noticeable increase in fuel economy. I commute through the foothills and for the past month my drive to work has been 22 MPG and my drive home has been 14 MPG. It's only been 3 days since upping the pressure, but I've been getting 25 MPG on the way in and 16 MPG on the way home.
Obviously, take this with a grain of salt since I'm only one person and it's only been a few days, but the 5 PSI bump had resulted in a 2.5 MPG gain for me.

How’s the ride quality at 40psi? I live in a city with a lot of potholes. 36 is already a little harsh on the D loads. 40 might be too much, but I guess I could always test it out for a bit. If only they made these exact tires in C load.
It's probably a touch harsher, but I don't personally think the difference between 35 and 40 was significant. For what it's worth though, the roads around me aren't particularly rough. Also, I would definitely have purchased this tire in a C if that was an option. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with the tire as is.
If anyone is still checking this thread, wanted to add that I put (bronze) Method 703 in 17x8.5 with +35mm offset on my LCLC with Toyo Open Country AT3s in 34x10.5r17. I have stock suspension and this wheel/tire combo fits without modification for the full range of motion (as far as I can tell) and in the stock spare location under the truck. I've taken it offroading a bit on some muddy lighter trails and the combo worked fantastically. I love the new look compared to stock.
Set cold PSI to 34, which heats up to 38 after some time on the road. Good ride quality and mileage only dropped from about 22 to about 20.

I love this ratios on this setup. Thanks for the pic. I've got a LC250 on it's way (at the port in CA) and just ordered the Method 703s in 17x8.5 with +35mm and I'm 99% set on the Toyo Open Country AT3s in 34x10.5r17.
It's snug, but it does fit in the stock spare location.
Another +1 for Method 703 in 17x8.5 with +35mm offset with Toyo Open Country AT3s in 34x10.5r17. No lift. Spare underneath. Loving it.
