DASH CAM hardwire install

I was looking to hardwire a Blackvue dash cam box set-up and wondered if anyone had any photos or instructions of the fuse box location/s in the 2024 LC? I appreciate any help you can give me. I am installing a Blackvue DR970X-2CH Box Plus, https://www.blackboxmycar.com/products/blackvue-dr970x-2ch-box-plus-4k-uhd-cloud-dash-cam
There are two power points in the cabin.....

1 - A fuse box located under the glove box (remove the trim panel underneath).
2 - Near the rearview mirror, under the trim is a connector for the OEM mounted dash cam.

3 - A third power source is easily assessable by running a wire through the firewall (hole and grommet are already there you just have to run a wire through it) to the Dvr's side fuse box and use a fuse tap in one of the empty slots (always hot or hot with key on)

EOD, on the 2024 LC, can you give me a frame of reference of where to find the grommet going through the firewall?

Sure, DVr's side engine compartment firewall, almost to the windshield.

I have found the HF 5/8 grommet and turquoise silicone cap (poked through the wires) work great in place of that plug as I now have like 8 or 9 wires running through that hole. keeps everything in and water tight to my experience and we have gotten a ton of rain recently here in TX.

Appreciate the clarification & photo! I have a 3-wire (red/blk/ylw) to run through there.

@dtxlcfe Thank you for the note on the replacement grommets, as well!

Just my recommendation............ if you are installing a relay bank under hood, I would run a trigger wire for each relay in one bundle through the firewall.

In my case I used a 6 relay bank, I used one relay as an ACCY (Hot with key on) feed for a buss bar mounted behind the dash. I also ran one wire as an "always hot" feed behind the dash. So I ended up with 8 wires bundled together and fed through the fire wall. I have only used 3 of the relays for actual things and the other three wires are neatly coiled and reside behind the L/H dash trim panel. These have been designated for other items to be installed at a later date.

The purpose of the ACCY buss bar........... All of the switches I have installed so far are being powered by the ACCY buss as I don't want to accidently leave one on. Examples are; my air compressor and radar detector.

I'm a big fan of bus bars; selling ATVs and SxS vehicles, we install a lot of them for the very reasons you mentioned.

On my golf cart, I installed the relay in the photo and it worked like a charm.

I wish someone had a YouTube with this install. thanks for detailing that out

I just hardwired the Blackvue DR970X into my 2024 Land Cruiser 1958 yesterday. It took a while, but it's working great so far! Thank you to EOD Guy for describing the options for powering the dashcam. I thought that the grommet plug in the firewall was a promising option, but when I looked at the 2 fuse boxes in the engine compartment, these boxes are tightly sealed, and any wire outputs are enclosed in cable covers and wrapped with lots of electrical tape. I would have had to take that apart or drill a little hole in the fuse box and seal the opening with another grommet.

I chose to use the fuse box under the glove box. It's easily accessible. The only potential obstacle was that this fuse panel is upside down, and the fuse panel cover is flat, sitting directly on the fuses. Installing fuse taps here means I could not place the fuse panel cover back on. I contacted BlackBoxMyCar, and they were very helpful. They're confident that the fuses and fuse taps won't fall out.

So, I used 2 fuse taps (1 to an ACCESSORY fuse and a 2nd to a CONSTANT ON fuse). Interestintly, when I reinstalled the grey plastic cover in the footwell, this cover actually adds a bit of upward pressure on the fuses so they would have little to no chance of falling out.

The closest place for the grounding wire is a 10mm bolt just to the left of the center console. That bolt attaches to the metal frame. I looked for the metal bolt on metal frame closer to the fuse panel, but they were really hidden and deep.

On the Dvr's side box, the large wire bundle that enters the fwd/RH corner has a lot of room to put a couple of wires entering the loom outside the box, fish them through the loom to the interior of the box (no holes drilled).

Thanks for the write-up. Do you have any photos of showing your process?
