Currently trying to make a bypass microphone harness for my aftermarket radio to gain the functionality back. I got this idea from the last gen Tundra folks who did this...but for them it was a lot easier as it was just 1 harness and we have 2 different harnesses for driver/passenger side Mic. I am a bit out of my depth and could use an extra set of eyes on this. Will add that this was a cool project to undertake and learned a lot. Big S/O to EOD Guy for providing the wiring diagram to get me rolling on this side quest of mine.

The OEM harness you see me holding is the one that is not utilized with the new head unit. After looking through the wiring diagram I strongly believe that it’s the one on page 3 (I circled it) and it’s for the passenger side. Only issue is in the diagram it says that the pin 19 should be brown...but it’s yellow here.

I tried to splice the cables like this template from the Tundra folks. Thanks to the diagram, I was able to locate this harness on Amazon. I will not be posting a picture of my harness after splicing it as I’m embarrassed of it and it’s not pretty at all lol. Here is how I wired it.

Mic ground -> pin 17
mic red -> pin 18
usb red -> 20
usb black -> 21 and 19

After a few calls, it seems that I was not able to activate the microphone…which is now making me believe that I would need to wire up both sets (90980-12G35/90980-12G34) to activate the mics. The other downside is that the 90980-12G34 harness I can only find the male connector on AliExpress and nowhere else.

This is as far as I got with a good few days spent learning about this stuff on YouTube/google/chatGPT.

One more thing to add is as a workaround I do have this external mic set up. Its not great but definitely better than the mic on the head unit. If this idea does not pan out at least I still have this option.

I am under the assumption the overhead mics are part of the noise cancelling system.

Are you trying to use them as the hands free for your phone?
