Guys,

We have approx 5000 miles on our new 2025 1958 LC. The front tires outer edge are cupping and the right rear is cupping inside and out. Has anyone else experienced this with their LC?
I know alignment and tire pressure can cause this but I also know tire design and application also matter.
Just curious if anyone else has seen this on their Yokohama equipped 1958 ?

What size/series Yokos did you go with? I had Geolander AT4s on my 2022 Pilot TrailSport recently traded in on the wife's Sequoia. 3 of 4 were cupping bad. I think those were 265s, but cannot remember. Put roughly 12k miles over 18 months on them.

EDIT: They were 245/70/18 (found the paperwork just now).

The Geolander X-CVs (assuming those are what you’re working with) aren’t known to be great tires, but I haven’t seen any reports of cupping (especially at such low miles). Usually that arises with more aggressive A/T or M/T tires. That would lead me to suspect a tire pressure or alignment issue as you note.

Agree with the above comments. Problem is that even if the dealer does do the alignment, they probably will not do anything about the cupped tires. That said of you are in the Denver vicinity, you can have my take-off geolanders. Probably 3-400 miles on them.

Welcome to the Jungle!

5K seems a bit quick, A few factors that might cause cupping.......

Alignment - Toe in/out and caster will make the tire scrub and accelerate cupping.
Shocks – A bad or improperly valve’d shock will allow for increased oscillation and accelerate cupping.
Suspension - Too stiff of a spring would accelerate cupping on the outer portion, too soft of a spring would accelerate cupping on the inner portion.
Improperly inflated/balanced tires.

Each of these play off the others so all must compliment each other for prolonged tire life.

Just my opinion tho’

Update to original post, took to dealership where vehicle was out of alignment. the fixed the toe issue. Now it is in Toyotas hands to provide me with new tires. the cupping isn't bad but once it starts, the tires will wear uneven and won't get the life they are supposed to. This is Toyota #5, first one ever needing an alignment, let alone being out of spec new from the factory (from Japan no less!)

Thanks. I am in western PA, unfortunately. I think Toyota might do something for us.

same size. cupping was minor but once it starts... it doesn't stop.

Yep, my Geolanders are doing the same thing. I took my 58 to an alignment shop that a friend of mine owns. We put the 58 on the rake, the alignment is good. It’s just something about the Geolanders.
The good news is at 20k I’m replacing them with something else, still researching my next tire.
