Center Differential Locker-Hi vs. Low?

Thanks for the correction on being able to lock center in high-range. Thinking about it some more, a good application for this would probably be when driving on sand at higher speeds. On icy roads I’d still like to rely on the Torsen.

I’ve used locking center diff (4th gen v8 4Runner) while driving on roads with stretches of deep sand. It prevents fishtailing. Haven’t tried it yet with my LC but am expecting similar performance.

This is great stuff. I’m a career pilot and I can appreciate having your head in a manual. Lots of details and processes for operating this LC or you could do some expensive damage and create some serious safety issues. They should make a check list!

Toyota really needs to publish a supplement dedicated to clarifying the optimal use of the numerous overlapping off road systems and technologies. With the LC full time 4WD, Torsen differentials, ATRAC, crawl control, and MTS, the value proposition for lockers is growing smaller and smaller.....
Yea, I am lost when it comes to all that high tech stuff on Miss Daisy.

Hello,
Concerning drive, torque and locking stuff, it is not because a wheel axle receives power that the force is transmitted to the ground, don't forget the tire-ground interface and car center of gravity. For example, the power transmitted to the ground of a 4WD car can change from traction to propulsion with the associated instabilities depending on the properties of the ground. I've seen spins, with the driver completely surprised at losing control being assured with all differentials locked, all wheels will propulse the vehicle evenly.

Welcome to the asylum grandsons.
