Carista users, whats the real deal, with this unit??

So got the basic Carista unit pluged in today and connected on setting..
No dice??
Anyone have success with this ghost product ??

I downloaded Carista, and found it worked with a device I already owned, so I didn’t buy their proprietary OBDII reader.

You want to plug in, make sure your Land Cruiser is “on” and then open Carista on your phone (mine runs IOS). Carista didn’t hunt for my Bluetooth OBDII interface naturally, but eventually detected it and I was able to perform multiple scans and adaptations.

You might have to detect the Carista OBDII with your phone (Bluetooth or Wifi) to get things started.

Don’t use their device, it is terrible. I use it with a device I already have and haven’t had an issue with it. I bought their device and promptly returned it because it was terrible.

Plug the device in, then turn the vehicle on and open the Carista app to find your device.

I bought their Evo interface and have used it with a couple packages including Carista. Seems to run ok but from memory was slow connecting. I don't remember having to monkey with it to get it to connect but can test something specific for you if you'd like

Same. Downloaded the app and used an existing wireless dongle. I paid for a month's subscription, programmed everything I wanted then cancelled the sub.

No problems here. Bought the Evo on sale and a one month subscription. Of course I screwed something up and needed to use it again one month later so I needed to re-subscribe. Added a year and now I probably won't need it again, but at least I'm covered if I do.

So you are paying for the software usage. It works on another device??
The dongle hardware must be similar. The one year s/w lic fee is $60 ... Or $20 for 1 month.

Yes, the Carista software is a subscription I pay for. I had my OBDIi reader from using JScan on my previous vehicle (it was compatible with JScan). I figured I would try it as I had to correct an issue with TPMS on the Land Cruiser. Think of Carista OBDIi as their preferred interface.

^^^ Thanks, need to decide what to use the tool for. To sign up for the year seems reasonable. However, aside for the seat belt alarm, no real compelling reasons to sign up... Wondering if others have found any significant reasons to alter some of the options that are a problem.

I turned off almost everything that beeps. All the seatbelts, Turn signal volume and how many times it flashes. Also reprogrammed key fob so it will allow you to open the windows and sunroof remotely. That works 100% of the time, would be great if remote start worked as well. Several other things I can't recall right now. I really should write these down just in case....

I signed up for a year figuring I'd use it. I can't remember if Carista software runs without a web connection but I have a nagging feeling it doesn't. This can be significant if true depending on your use of LC. I do have a second piece of software installed on my phone, Car Scanner, as a backup. Either piece of software can connect to the Carista Evo OBDII interface I own (and likely 99% of the other Bluetooth OBDII interfaces out there).

I toned down my LC mostly- mild, short chime for seat belts, nuke the autoblinker, etc. I was disappointed that I couldn't adjust for tire diameter (apparently hard coded in the ABS brain?) and that I couldn't pick my default cruise control mode. And some settings will change but reinitialize themselves back with a power cycle

In terms of adaptations, I turned off the automatic rear wiper when backing up feature as that has always annoyed me...if I want to smear my back window I can do so manually with the wiper control. I silenced the driver's seatbelt warning chime (even though I always wear the seatbelt when on the road) as I often spend some time turning the LC around on property and find the "ding" reminder a little aggressive.

I used it to sort the TPMS issue I had when swapping wheels & tires with new sensors- the system lost communication with the spare and triggered a hard code. I used it to troubleshoot an issue with the rear hatch refusing to open and discovered a code set for loss of communication with module in rear hatch and cleared it. I used it for clearing a consistent warning on the cluster to see the dealer about key programming that arose. I find it an all-around useful piece of software to have. I started with a month to month subscription, and if I choose to keep it active indefinitely I'll probably switch to yearly.

If you are talking about the rear seat reminder chime (and notification on the instrument cluster), I don’t believe that can be defeated with Carista or the scanner of your choice.

I hate that damn thing- 80% of the time I am driving the Land Cruiser solo- no child, no pet, no valuables left in the rear seat so I don’t need a reminder to check the rear seat. With that said. you just know there is someone out there who is willing to sue the auto manufacturer because they left a toddler unattended in a car seat and the vehicle didn’t advise them to check before parking and going into the casino for eleven hours

Just turn it off. No carista or OBD reader needed. See page 654 of owner’s manual.
