Brake Squeal TSB is finally here T-SB-0046-25 July 24, 2025

Nice. Hopefully someone has an active TIS account and pulls it for everyone. I've never liked how these are kept behind the wall of a paid subscription.

It’s same parts as the Tundra TSB, minus rotors, parts had them on hand from folks that had sold their Tundra or had not answered calls to get it fixed.
 
Here is the full PDF. I find it very interesting that we have to wait for a TSB to be issued and also the amount of time it took compared to GX550 TSB that has been out for a while. I guess the days are gone where we can just take our vehicle under warranty to a dealer and they will fix an issue without a TSB. This really proves most service departments are just profit centers and they really don't care, unless there is TSB. They could have attempted to fix this issue without a TSB, the TSB guarantees they get paid for the repair. Many owners have been dealing with this issue for over 1 year, with dealers refusing to fix it.

Also please note the GX550 TSB includes the disk rotors... the LC250 TSB does not... lets hope the rotors are not needed.

I'm thinking the dealership will verify that your brakes are squealing in reverse before they would replace them.

You are in agreement with the TSB :)


I have a slight hint of brake noise in reverse. From what I have read in threads here on the forum, this will get more noticeable over time.

On my previous non-Toyota vehicle (a Jeep Wrangler, known for "the Chewbacca groan" noise from the rear brakes when backing up), I committed a cardinal sin in the eyes of forum members and put in aftermarket semi-metallic pads on my rear brakes. It came with semi-metallic on the front brakes as OEM and organic on the rear brakes. The Wrangler has rear-biased brakes, and the rear brakes with factory "premium" organic pads would be worn down every two years while the fronts seemingly lasted forever.

Everyone told me I was going to ruin my brake rotors using the semi-metallic pads. I noticed improved braking with the pads I added, and got to keep the "Chewbacca groan." The main side effect was a similar slight pad noise to what I am experiencing in reverse with the Land Cruiser, and the Jeep's rotors were none the worse for wear with the addition of semi-metallic pads. Rear pad life increased with the swap.

I would be interested to know what materials Toyota uses in their OEM pads and if the parts in the TSB have different composition to what was fitted off the assembly line should anyone know and want to share. As long as braking performance remains good, I am inclined to leave well enough alone for now unless that slight brake noise gets significantly louder before seeking out dealership work under that TSB.

One thing I did notice early in Land Cruiser ownership is that the rotors on all four corners showed a flash of surface rust immediately after hitting them with a pressure washer. A quick drive had that cleaned off with the pads. I am not curious enough right now to disassemble the brakes to see if the pads are showing rust accumulations as a contributor to noise.

Mine wouldn't do it at the dealer last time since it tends to be a first thing in the morning event. Best to take along a video.
