Apple iOS and carplay

Yeah, mine worked just fine for the first year... no issues. Now, having a lot of issues. I'm on a 17 and it doesn't seem to matter on the software for the phone.

I'm starting to wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the free year of Toyo connect? Once the year is up, you have to subscribe? I never signed up for any of that to begin with, just wondering if it's a change in the behavior of the car's DCM/etc? I think I've read that people were having issues with CarPlay after the software update for the rearview camera? I haven't gotten any updates done to mine yet (haven't had any issue with that), can't imagine the update making it worse than now?
I think Toyota Connect and both CarPlay/Android Auto are completely separate technologies from each other.

I had the camera software update and at least for me, granted Android and not iOS, but it is no better nor no worse since the update.

Apple Car Play hasn’t been working worth a crap in the last month, mainly repeatedly disconnecting.

It seems that just when I am starting to do something with my iPhone 15 pro max, the Toyota app asks permission to connect to Miss Daisy, if I interrupt that process, the shenanigans always begin.

I have zero problems with CarPlay disconnecting.

Are any of you using a camera that requires a connection? In my case, I have a FitCamX front camera. In order to view files on the app, I need to connect to the camera. This is a WiFi connection and so is CarPlay. You cannot connect to both at once. This is not a Toyota or Apple thing, this is a WiFi Network thing.

I only connect to my camera when I really need to and then after I am done, not only do I disconnect, I actually go into networks and “Forget this Network” for my FitCamX. Otherwise, it will try to reconnect later on and my CarPlay will disconnect.

I never used the LC’s built in WiFi…my phone serves that function. If you are connecting to the LC’s built in WiFi, the same issue will happen.

If you have a provider like Xfinity for your home internet AND you have your phone set to look for Xfinity hotspots, the same thing will happen. CarPlay will connect and then when you drive past an Xfinity hotspots, CarPlay will disconnect when your phone connects to the Xfinity hotspot.

In short, if you don’t want wireless CarPlay to disconnect, make sure there are no WiFi networks in your list that might connect as you are driving around. Again, this is wireless networking on your phone and is nothing related to the LC or Apple or Android or any equipment.

Where should we look for this ‘LIST’?…

On our phones, or in the LC electronic thingamajigger..

It’s on your phone. For iPhone, see best practices in image below. I woukd
Recommend going to Settings>WiFi>Edit and remove networks you might encounter while driving around.

Also, turn off AutoJoin for any network that isn’t one of your home networks. That will prevent your phone from dropping CarPlay and AutoJoin ing a network it encounters while you are out and about.

I made sure that now when I connect to my FitCamX I have AutoJoin turned off and when I am done looking at FitCamX files, I click the ! For the FitCamX and Forget This Network so it won’t try to reconnect on its own and kick me out of CarPlay

I've noticed, and this behavior is fairly consistent, when my wife's phone is in the car, after two minutes, CarPlay will crash and disconnect my phone.

Her phone is set up in CarPlay, but my phone is the primary. I've removed her phone from CarPlay, and ever since, it's been solid. Kind of disappointing.

I didn't realize this is what I had done........... My daughter who's everything electronic programming savy, was assisting the last time I was pissed at CarPlay and I vagally remember her telling me not to auto connect to wi-fi unless it was her or my networks. I haven't had any issues in a long while and I think you are absolutely correct.

I also count myself lucky to never have CarPlay issues, and I also have my WiFi auto connect turned off.

I have both mine and my wife’s phones configured to connect, mine as the primary. I do not have the same issue and she does ride with me often, as well as take the LC out on her own. I did configure ID’s paired with the key and made sure my phone was connected to my key/identity. Same as hers. Hope you sort it out.

All auto connect/join is turned off on mine. Went to go make a call yesterday, and soon as I hit the 'Call' button on the CarPlay to call someone,, it disconnected. WTH?

Yeah i finally upgraded with out a problem. Thankgod

I’m running IOS 26.2 and periodically I will start up the LC and CarPlay is not recognized. Have to go to settings to connect. Irritating but doesn’t happen often.
This happens occasionally to me too. I just shut down the head unit (long press on the volume knob), turn it back on, and it usually connects.

This has happened to me maybe eight times in a year.

I need to remember to try that next time..

I’ve experience weird audio issues all week. I installed beat sonic amp and powered Memphis sub under passenger seat last week. Sounded amazing super happy with upgrade. Over the weekend I did phone update and now I connect but music only plays out of one speaker (left dash) I lose control of volume (numbers don’t appear on screen)

Only way to get it to go back is to shut phone off then on again. Then it connect and plays as normal. Very strange
