Was rear ended at high speed (60+ MPH) by a large truck in my 2023 Audi S5. Told myself after that, I wanted something with a larger "ass" to cushion any blow, so I ended up with my 2026 LC.

Same for me in my 8month old WRX STI. Need more mass around me now and don't have a CDL.

It's a bit of a sleeper but this is our other car. Car and Driver couldn't find Polestar/Sport mode and still got 4.1 sec 0-60 MPH. I've only floored it once and it felt like I'd done something I should not do. And our average MPGs tend to be somewhere in the 200's.

Panamera Turbo was a really nice sedan but it was 2013, so just replaced it with a new Golf R. Both cars are very comfortable and great for long highway trips. I hate taking the landcruiser for long high speed highway trips. It's too noisy and boxy, pushing too much wind for my likes. I really love my LC First Edition but it's just not made for high speed long trips in my opinion.

We have a compact sedan for when we want to go anywhere incognito. A beater if you will. 2008 Honda Accord. But to have a newer nice sedan concurrently with the LC is a bit redundant for us. I do have a sports car to slide around for fun if I feel the need

Bought my M5 new in 2003 and over the years it's been joined in the garage by a 4Runner, an FJ Cruiser, an 2006 Land Cruiser (still there) and the 2024 LCLC (also still there). I tracked the M5 quite a bit until a couple of years ago- now it's just a fun weekender in the summer.

The last of the proper M5’s before BMW lost the plot and turned the 5 series into a slightly different E Class.

Yes, there is a guy in cali named Troy ermish who does a lot of prep and races the 510, so they are quite popular little cars in California.

I’m one of the few in the world who actually likes the E60 Bangle M5 for looks and the V10 engine.

The only slight problem was the VANOS and every other moving part on the V10. Making them a mechanical nightmare and basically worthless today.

The E60 was a disaster. I wasn’t a fan of the ones I sold, or the 6 series that shared the platform. The M5 and M6 of that generation had their good points, but overall I don’t think they hold a candle to the E39 M5.

The transmission was my hang up, it was great when driving the car hard but that SMG automated manual was terrible at shifting during normal day to day driving. Maybe they “learned” over time how to not shift like a bag of smashed assholes, but off the car hauler they were abysmal.

The V10 was glorious. Too bad they eat their own rod bearings.

We put a deposit down on a model 3 the first day the list started (I think 2016). It was delivered in April 2018, and we’ve driven 80k miles since then. What I like about it:
(1) Fun to drive
(2) Convenient—charge overnight, and we have a range of 300+ miles. Saved perhaps 20 hours of gas station stops, and rarely need to charge away from home.
(3) Fun to drive
(4) Our sole maintenance cost was the 50k mile service. Tesla mobile service came to our house in the Santa Cruz Mts, and did the service in our driveway. Total service cost was $140 for 80k miles. (We also had to replace windshield wipers and washer fluid, cabin air filter, and tires.)
(5) Fun to drive.

On the other hand, the CEO would deter me from buying another one.

I have a F-350 Lariat that's my car I suppose? Glad to be traveling in it the past few weeks considering the interior room, storage in the bed and 4 wheel drive. Very comfortable on the road and achieving 25+ MPG with PowerStroke HO engine.

If I lived near a dealer and felt I could justify the expense an M-B E450 wagon would be on my shortlist. Plus any of the ridiculous top spec German super wagons like the BMW M5 wagon, M-B E63 AMG, or the Audi RS6.

Keep them for 3-4 years then move on.

Almost. It’s a 280z with the bumpers swapped to 240z bumpers. The 280’s had massive bumpers to fit the 5mph rule changes.

I really enjoy my LC and will keep it around for many years.

However, there are times when I miss jumping in a nice medium sized luxury sedan for a road trip or to simply run to the office / errands.

I've been snooping around looking for late model Certified / low mile mid-sized sedans to add to the stall for this reason. In particular Audi A6 55 S-Line or BMW 540i M-Sport.
The 2024 / 2025 Certified models from Audi / BMW dealers with fewer than 10k miles are really a lot of bang for your buck. $70k cars you can buy for $45kish...which is generally $25k less than MSRP with 4 + years left of factory warranty
and the major hit of depreciation out of them.

Interested if anyone has also thought about this....

I purchased a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E350S Wagon in 2020. The sticker price (with every option except rear heated seats) was just over $84K. I paid $18K as the third owner with 93,000 miles on the odometer. All service performed and documented according to manufacturer schedule.

I traded this car in when buying my Land Cruiser. I do miss it. It is a better vehicle in every way.
