2007 FJ Cruiser
Hi Ladies and Gentlemen, I don't have a new Land Cruiser yet, but am thinking about it. I had a 1981 FJ60 for about 10 years. It was a great old vehicle. I was the fifth owner and tried hard to bring it back to life. It was doing pretty well when I sold it in 2006 and replaced it with a 2007 FJ Cruiser, which I still have and enjoy. One of my mods on the FJ was to replace the front seats with front seats from a 2019 GX460. It was a fairly easy swap. I also removed all of the interior and added lots of sound deadener. Which brings me to the point of this post. Has anyone investigated to see if any of the windows on the GX550 will fit in the Land Cruiser? I am assuming they are thicker glass and would keep the Cruiser quieter.
Thoughts?

Welcome to the Jungle!

Sooo, i was actually crazy enough to try this. I have heard that people are getting gx windshields to replace their lc's, so the door window got to be the same size. I bought the front gx550 glasses and compared it to the lc's, I couldn't tell any difference at all, the thickness is the same. I also couldn't tell how many layers there are in the glass since it's all sanded down on all the edges. There is no label on the gx glass that says acoustic, and the wording on the label looks almost the same as my lc's. I do think gx got slightly better glass since some numbers and code on the label is higher than lc. My dumbass didn't get a picture of the. replacement gx glass but i did grab a picture of a luxury gx, see attached. Since the two front glasses cost about $700 and another $250 to install, I just returned it, the cost is just too much, might as well spend that money on more sound deadening material. Maybe i will try this if someone breaks my window someday.

Thanks to everyone for the welcomes and the windshield info. As time passes and some of the GX550s end up in wrecking yards it could be possible to do some hands on research/comparison of the glass parts.

I thought that another member of the Forum already researched this and found out that the GX 550 windows were not interchangeable with the Land Cruiser windows. 🤔

why would you replace the windshield? It is acoustic glass already. The GX has acoustic glass on the remaining windows which we not. Nvh is the same for both vehicles
