Hi Guys does anyone have a suggestion for video streaming rear view mirrors for a Landcruiser. I want it to look good. My RAV 4 has a Toyota Rearview mirror with a camera I am not sure if the new series 300 has this.

If so has anyone retrofitted this into a Land Cruiser

Thanks Rajeev

Welcome to the Jungle!

I may not understand your question.......... the US spec LC/Premium has an inside rearview camera system (OEM). If your talking about the outside mirrors, I'm not aware of an after-market offering.

The Rear view mirror in the centre. Not the wing mirrors. I have a fridge and load the back of the car I use the wing mirrors to look at the cars behind. Would have loved live streaming.

They offer several mirror/camera system after-market........... Some replace the mirror and others that clip over the mirror. Amazon search reviled several hundred kits.

This thread brings up a thought.
Could it be possible to "tap" into the existing vehicle cameras and record that video to a memory device?
This could eliminate the possible need to install front and rear aftermarket cameras that record.

Some Toyotas do this from the factory, or at least did, in other markets. I had a 2021 Venza (sold elsewhere as a Harrier) which had that capability as an option overseas. In the US, the only option was the same clunky dash cam we can get for the LC.

Never understood why this isn't just a thing - my biggest hesitation on installing a dash cam is I like things to be properly integrated.

If you're just referring to being able to use the camera instead of the standard mirror, then I know that it's an option on the LC 250, and would definitely assume it's an available option on the LC 300

I had asked that question before here, and was told that the Japanese version already had the capability

its probably a disabled feature in the software. Due to strict US privacy policy the probably restrict by default. maybe make it available as a payed service

I don't know if you really need a built in DVR. The vehicle is both
1) Cloud Connected
2) Also acts like a WiFi hotspot.
If Toyota wanted it could make capturing video from existing cams easily available to US consumer, without the need of external or integrated dashcam.

The US variant does not have a DVR and not everyone has a subscription......... I have seen adverts for breakout/conversion units and one of them specified "video storage" (translated from Japanese) outputs and what I based my opinion off of.

You do need a DVR. Cloud connected or not, the signal is never good enough to stream and send full hd video all the time to toyota servers

I'm thinking a dedicated box that connects to the vehicles port (CANBUS?). Amongst its' guts would be a "brain", a solid state hard drive, and some various output ports (USB, Bluetooth, flash card, etc.).

I think this would satisfy your request, it replaces your current center rearview mirror with cameras that you install. If you want to have front and rear cameras display while driving down the road you can. This does NOT tap into any of the cameras currently installed on your vehicle though.

Some posts have talked about tapping into the OEM cameras, maybe some day but I don't know if anyone in the LC/GX community is hacking Toyota ECU's/etc/etc but I'd love to be proven incorrect! One feature I miss from my Tesla is turning the cameras on while driving above 7mph...

My LC 250 has this option, i have the adventure trim which comes almost fully loaded. I live in the GCC, therefore i don’t know which trim have it by default in the US

Ah more context helped me figure this out, thanks @Maz . In the U.S. market, I believe at least the Premium trim has the rearview mirror that will convert the mirror into a screen showing traffic behind you, there's a small tab at the bottom of the mirror that will convert the mirror/screen. This setup is helpful for when you have tall/large people in the rear seats or cargo such as a fridge obscuring your view using just the mirror setting.

If your vehicle does not have this setup then I would suggest the WolfBox, it comes with a new "mirror" and cameras.
