At least there was some good that came out of the unfortunate situation.

Oh yeah, the sunroof. All the plastic in the mechanism shattered. They told me most times the cable is salvagable and the motor. Nope just the motor because the broken plastic cut the cable. Think about this though, all they are doing is painting the hood and putting it on. Only changing parts no body work. The sound change of the roof is amazing from tin to thud.

How did that even happen? Obviously something hot was laid on or pointed at it, but why?
That's good that they'll take care of it, did they say what caused it?

We thought it was from a torch. All they were doing was the hood and sunroof no need for hear of any kind. They were just as mad as I was played it off but someone is getting fired.
When it rains it pours. I hope all of that gets sorted to your satisfaction,
My guess is a heat gun used to soften adhesive/sealant for the weather seal. Looks like it was placed rearward on the door switches, while the tech was pulling on the frame or something. About 45 seconds later that same tech probably stated something like "Oh sh!t".
I have in the past experienced something similar while shrinking shrink tubing and not paying attention to where the gun was pointed.
That sucks but that's why they sell parts. Good luck getting everything buttoned up

I told the manager those are going to be some expensive repairs they have to make. I won't expect less than new. I'll find out tomorrow I hope. On a side note I HATE my wife's Outback and want her to get a Sienna.
After the fix, I'd ask if you could look at or keep the old parts.

Okay, update from the body shop. After looking at 12hours of video they have confirmed I had nothing to do with the damage.
They think they found the culprit, they got new protective film to protect interior and the adhesive in the sun caused the damage. They didn't take off the protective film until it was finished. All of this is speculation, I guess all of this is to say they have no idea what happened because there is nothing on video to prove anything. I'm getting new stuff.
