I have about 11k miles on my 24FE. Since day one I've noticed a slight smell of coolant on the passenger side up-front. I do a lot of DIY, so I just thought maybe I'm being overreactive as the first 4K of miles there was really no loss of coolant in overflow. Now at 10K i had to add about a half quart to get from min back to full levels. Clearly, a very small leak! I don't see any overt signs of coolant anywhere (and likely from a loose hose). I just rented a pressure tester but wanted to see if there is a common culprit found (didn't see any threads) among any here???

Oh, and FYI, none of the harbor freight or the $300 powersave (i think) pressure kits (rented from AutoZone) have an adapter that fits the overfill tank (because why have a radiator cap these days, Toyota). You have to get part CTA Tools 7103 that fits the overflow tank. Coming later in the week so I can test for the leak. First post so be gentle on me.

Welcome to the Jungle!

My Taco smelled like coolant from day one....... "O" ring ended up being the culprit.

If there is a leak, even a small one, wouldn’t it eventually show up on the ground where you park? Unless it’s leaking into the engine. It’s not going to evaporate. I check my garage floor occasionally for signs of fluid leaking. Just a thought because I know most of us our coolant overflow is naturally on the low level.

Sometimes things only leak when hot. So if it is a small enough leak that only happens when the engine is hot, it may evaporate before making it to the floor. It could be easier to look for salt crust from evaporated coolant, or finding it be a UV dye.

Happened to me in my golf r, I smelled coolant from new occasionally. Dealership always said it was fine until one day they replaced the water pump. I imagine you’ll find something or the dealership will at service time eventually.
