Hello: looking to purchase 2025 and can not decide between the SDM option or not. I will lift my vehicle. Do you know if there are lifting capabilities with the SDM options. What is your experience or thoughts? Thank you in advance

I have the SDM option. I have pressed the button for uneven terrain but doubt I've actually exceeded the articulation I would have without the option. It's a nice to have for off roading on uneven terrain but you have to manually activate it (unlike KDSS) and it will deactivate automatically above 25 mph. It does not improve ride handling and instead simply allows more articulation to help keep the wheels on the ground. You should have increased body roll with the SDM activated (stabilizer disconnected) which is generally not a good thing, in exchange for the improved articulation.

That said, it doesn't look like SDM would interfere with the ability to add lift to the suspension or customize suspension. SDM does not provide lifting capability like you would have with air suspension. If you have the option of SDM get it; it costs $1250 and very few LC are currently delivered with SDM and I expect it to help with resale even if you never need it.

SDM won’t affect a lift either way.
If you lift over a certain amount you’d want extended sway bar links for either SDM or the standard bar.
I would get the SDM if you can.

so if wanted higher lift you recommend to extend the sway bar?
You think 4 inch lift would be fine with extended sway bar? Thank you

If doing more than 2" you will probably want a panhard (extension) bracket. Depends on your goal. Unless you are replacing a lot of components, you are usually giving up suspension travel (and articulation) proportional to lift... for my uses the articulation is more valuable than raw clearance. I could see a use case for extreme breakover or increasing water fording depth with lift, but depends on what you want to do. If I wanted to increase approach/departure angles I'd probably change the bumpers before going above 2" lift.

Got it. Thank you. So while on subject what are your thoughts on the stock suspension and springs on the Land Cruiser? I currently have 4runner and running bp51 kit. Different beast but curious on your thoughts. I have rtt, rack, drawer system, fridge and some other weight. Thinking of moving to LC so trying to learn all I can. Appreciate the insight.

Just going by memory, I think over two inches you’d want to get extended sway bar links. I know at least King and Dobinson have them available for their taller kits.
I’m not aware of a 4” lift. That would be a major undertaking including all kinds of new parts, not just the standard shocks and springs.
What are your plans for the truck?

Thanks. Just trying to figure it out. Prob drive it a bit as is with minor adjustments to learn its capabilities than make any mods from there. But I will want my off-road tires and wheels, add rack, rtt, awning, lights and any under protection. I’ll need strong enough springs suspension etc to hold all this as well.

I started my last post before you and dubel posted then came back without refreshing, so I missed this before.
Anyway, you can basically apply what you learned with your 4Runner to the new platform. If you like the BP51s you can do the same again, etc.
One nice thing is on the LC you can fit 35s or even 37s with way less effort than on the 5G 4R, in case that's what you were picturing when you mentioned a big lift.

74Weld has portal axles for almost 4” of lift and Dissent Motors has run with 38” tires, you might want to check out their builds.
