Has anyone found any heavier-duty rear hatch struts for the LC 250 (1958)? Added a Prinsu Ladder and the hatch won't stay open anymore...

I've noticed the struts on the units with the assisted door open are quite a bit larger. Any chance these may fit?
I don't have the ladder but I wish I could change mine as well to go higher on the 58.
If there was an aftermarket solution for stronger and or higher struts, I would jump on it.

Thanks! They should fit, but they are significantly more expensive. I’m confident there will be aftermarket ones in the future, as they were for my 5th gen 4Runner. Joys of having a first year model!?

For sure! I will continue to keep a lookout for struts that fit and make sure I update the forum.

Pretty sure assisted struts have motors built in.
What does Prinsu recommend?
Hello, first post here. Love the truck but did notice manual lift gate struts are weak. Dealer said today mine were same as new struts on showroom LC’s. Any ideas for an aftermarket upgrade? Thanks

Just my opinion............ If the struts are keeping the hatch open, what's the point of putting stronger struts on.
The con in putting stronger struts on, requires more force to close them, that force transfers to the mount, which in turn transfers to the body sheet metal, over time that could lead to fatigue and cracking/tear out.

I see where you’re coming from. I use it daily and opens to about my chin and I lift manually the rest of the way manually. (I’m 6’5”} I guess I’m used to my 4Runner where it just popped all the way open fast.
